The Details: Geoff Tate is the original voice behind the influential Hard Rock and Metal band Queensryche and he possesses a supersonic vocal register that made albums like “Operation: Mindcrime”, “Rage For Order” and “Empire” blockbusters in the minds of many a concert goer. This solo tour will find Mr. Tate presenting in full the ”Rage” and “Empire” albums with a stellar band of players and thanks to the marketing team at the beautiful Sony Hall in New York City, some of the PiercingMetal readership will be getting the chance to enjoy this concert for free. Let’s go over some of the details on how you participate in this giveaway.

When and Where: Tuesday, January 25th at Sony Hall (235 W 46th St, New York, NY 10036) at 6PM.

To Participate: With Geoff Tate celebrating these two classic albums I am going to keep the focus on them for this giveaway. Here are the necessary agenda items. First, name the album which is your absolute favorite of the two of them. Then I’d like you to line out four of the album tracks from them and tell me a little bit about why they are your favorites on the records. This means you can say three from “Empire” or vice versa. As long as you type “4” of them into the response. As a bonus response you can add what two tracks you hope Geoff might surprise us with from any of the other bodies of his musical work. That means his other Queensryche albums or even his solo efforts. I think that is simple and straight to the point and makes for some good reading once all is said and done. Please refer to the guidelines below as its important for this type of giveaway.

– Enter only once. Comments are moderated and don’t appear immediately after submission so be patient and don’t enter numerous times. You should see “your comment is awaiting moderation” once you submit it. It will appear once I approve it. Make sure you are entering a NEW comment and not replying to another contestant’s entry.
– Number the requirements for ease of knowing if you followed the instructions or not.
– The entry should be a good read, so a sentence or two of facts that make up your required three items. Saying “because it rules dude” will not impress me and not help your cause.
– Please enter your full real name in the comment form along with an email address that you can be reached at if you win. This is super important because I will be sending you a confirmation email and sharing with the house in case they have last minute audience updates. We stress that you do NOT place this information in the comment itself out of privacy concerns.
– Only enter if you really have interest in attending and its possible for you to do so. This is a NYC performance so if you live a couple of hundred miles away we don’t think you should be entering.
– Subscribe to the comments and check back to see them so you know if you won or not.
– Compose your entry on a text editor and then paste it into the comment form so you don’t lose any work. We’ve learned that sometimes a mobile feed is tricky so be sure to have a strong signal or use a laptop.

Get to work because this one will close by Monday afternoon on 1/24/2022 or if the provisions are depleted before that time.

Restrictions: The PiercingMetal Giveaways are open to our regional site visitors and Social Networking Followers (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube) and we always look for submissions from those who might not have won in the past. Upon arrival to the venue you will ask for the “House Guest List”. 1. Empire is my favorite of the two. Less prog but more polished.
1 – Hand on Heart is the top track on that one. Just superb melody line and chorus.
2 – jet city woman. The single and another top melodic metal number.
3 – Anybody listening? Anthemic chorus for a closer makes want to hit replay again, doesn’t it.
4 – Silent lucidity – deserves the single success. Great all time rock ballad.
Hoping to hear some tracks from Operation Mindcrime too. Sister Mary Suite, or more likely something shorter like the title track would be very nice.

    1. Hey Steve this works for me so congrats on winning one of our tickets to this show. As noted, your name will be on the House List which you will ask for when you arrive. Also, please make sure to keep supporting the PiercingMetal efforts on those social networks lined out in the Restrictions section since stuff like this isn’t easy to come by thanks to the pandemic.

  2. Between “Rage for Order” and “Empire”, the former is the album I’m the most stoked to see performed in full. Geoff Tate’s vocals along with great songwriting and a whole lot of hooks kept this one on the top of my favorites list, going neck and neck with “The Warning”.

That said, here are four of my favorite “Rage for Order” tracks:

    1. “I Dream in Infra Red” – You know exactly what you’re getting. Glorious, old-school Queensryche at their best!

2 & 3. “Neue Regel” & “Chemical Youth (We Are Rebellion)” – Counting this as one entry. The reason is you’ve got one great track going into another making it a bit of a conceptual composition, musically hinting at a much larger story for “Operation: Mindcrime”.

    4. “Screaming in Digital” – A deep-track classic. Yup. Queensryche stepped up the songwriting in a huge way, but as blindingly proggy as ever.

Because New York is going to get treated to a deluge of deep cuts from both albums, if Geoff decides to go one step beyond for an encore, – I – would love to see “Nightrider”, “En Force”, or “NM 156” played live as well.

    1. Hey Ian this works for me so congrats on winning one of our tickets to this show. As noted, your name will be on the House List which you will ask for when you arrive. 3. As a 80s metal head- I’d have to say Empire is for sure my favorite of the 2. Bartending and essentially growing up in the NYC metal bar, this album I can say has been a soundtrack to my late teens and 20’s
Queensryche has always been up there for me in classic metal genre. It’s still on heavy rotation when I bartend
    Top faves :
    1) jet city woman: easy to say a classic and a hit. This song 30 years later still rips. It’s got that classic creepy queensryche song and a very easy one to sing to!
    2) empire: slower but has some serious 80s vibes.
    Just a hit!
    3) silent lucidity: this reminds me of a prog opera.
I can picture this in phantom of the opera or a tim button movie. A sad cut for sure.
    4) Another rainy day without you:
The opening of this song has some maiden vibes, which is one of my favorites for sure- but yet has the dark Queensryche sound any fan would be looking for!

Bonus! Hope to hear Gunna get close to you- one of my favorite queensryche songs. Holds some great memories. Hope to make it to the show!

    1. Hey Val this works for me so congrats on winning one of our tickets to this show. As noted, your name will be on the House List which you will ask for when you arrive. Also, please make sure to keep supporting the PiercingMetal efforts on those social networks lined out in the Restrictions section since stuff like this isn’t easy to come by thanks to the pandemic.

  4. “Rage for Order” was the album that started it all for me at 17. Here are the four tracks:
“Gonna Get Close to You” – Seeing this video on MTV when they had a metal hour in the afternoon was my introduction to them. This track was originally performed by Lisa Dalbello with collaboration by the late Mick Ronson from Mott the Hoople and David Bowie in addition to great countless musical acts. After seeing his documentary was where I got my history lesson on this one.
“Walk In The Shadows” – First track to start off this album is anything but. Title of this song gives an eerie metal feel of what is about to take place next.
“Surgical Strike” – From beginning to end I cannot say anything but how good this one is. Geoff Tate’s vocals are overpowering, in addition to the musicianship and beat.
“Screaming In Digital” – Another track that needs no introduction whatsoever. Gives the listener an ideal of what to expect in the future.
My choice of two songs he should play are “Deliverance” and “Prophecy”.

    1. Hiya Anne this works for me so congrats on winning the final ticket to this show. As noted, your name will be on the House List which you will ask for when you arrive. Also, please make sure to keep supporting the PiercingMetal efforts on those social networks lined out in the Restrictions section since stuff like this isn’t easy to come by thanks to the pandemic.

  5. Alright my friends, that’s a wrap as I only had “4” tickets to dish out. All of the winners were notified below their entry and should refer to the “If You Win This Contest” section for the reminder on how to claim this. Thanks for participating and keep on supporting the PiercingMetal world via socials and the site so more coolness like this can continue.
