The Details: If you’re a Heavy Metal and Hard Rock fan who has studied the teachings of the masters then you know full well about the greatness of the legendary UFO and the equally dominating Saxon. Each of these bands has brought forth so many amazing tunes and to say that there are numbers that are among the most important tunes for the genre would be an understatement. Just imagine the kind of night that these two might deliver for their fans on the live stage. Having been a fan of each act for so many years I am excited to add this new contest to our offerings thanks to the powers that be at the vaunted Times Square venue. Yes my fiends, some of the PiercingMetal readership are going to see the UFO and Saxon show for free on the Wednesday night appearance. Read more down below.
When and Where: Wednesday, March 29th at B.B. King Blues Club (237 West 42nd Street, NYC)
To Participate: I’ve already extoled over the mutual greatness of UFO and Saxon and since this is a super important show I am NOT going to make it easy on you at all. Tenured readers know that I generally ask for three things about the main act that make you clamor for this show win and guess what, I will stick to the premise for this giveaway. However, in this case there are two main acts and that means three items for each of them. Yep. Three for UFO and three for Saxon. You can cite your favorite albums and why, discuss past concert experiences and what made them special or even let us know how they affected your musical psyche. Just know that there have to be three for each band. Not one, not two but three. Incompletes are an immediate NEXT in the Big Metal Book of Passes and let’s face it, these guys deserve the input. As always you should make these interesting reading since typing in “because they rock dude” is just too un-original and boring. I’ll be responding to the comments that I like most right below their answer. This is for a single ticket only and no plus one requests can be honored. Sorry.
– Enter only enter once. The comments are moderated and will not appear immediately after submission.
– Number them for ease of knowing if you followed the instructions or not if I’ve asked for a list.
– Please enter your full real name in the comment form along with an email address that you can be reached at if you win. This is necessary for listing purposes. Please do NOT put this information in the comment itself out of privacy concerns.
– Only enter if you CAN and WILL attend the show should you win and it’s logistically possible for you to do so. Essentially if you live a couple of hundred miles away we don’t think you’re coming here for a show in NYC.
– This is for the WEDNESDAY night show, the 29th. Missing it and trying to enter on the 30th will NOT work. Don’t even try it.
– Subscribe to the comments and check back to see the responses so you know if you won or not.
– Make sure you are entering a NEW comment and not replying to another contestant’s entry as that makes notifying you difficult should you be marked as a winner.
– I suggest you typing your submission on a PC or in an email if you are using a mobile since sometimes a lost connection will cause you to lose your work. Once your entry is completed just copy and paste it in and edit from there.
Bring it on as this one will close by noon on day of show or when allotment has been depleted.
Restrictions: All of the PiercingMetal contests are open to our loyal readers, Facebook Page likers and Twitter Followers but that being said we are still looking for the new names first. Don’t let that stop you from entering of course but we do keep track based on the overall demand for this stuff at this point. We want EVERYONE to have a chance to enjoy a show on the provider and PiercingMetal but if you just won a contest recently you will likely not have a chance for this one. Those readers who won our Uli Roth contest should bypass this one since it would be too early to put you through. Please note that Anonymous or Guest comments will not be approved.
If You Win This Contest: If you are marked as one of the winners for this contest, here is how to claim the ticket. On the night of the show go to the venue podium and ask for the House Guest List. Please bring proper identification (driver’s license, passport, NYC ID card) and your name will be checked off that list for you to enter. If you encounter any difficulty, please politely ask for an onsite manager and cite how this contest was done in coordination with venue Marketing and PiercingMetal.com. You can also expect an email to the provided address reminding you of the win so make sure that @piercingmetal.com is listed as a safe domain to receive notes from. This win is non-transferable.

UFO –
1. UFO was formed by Pete Way whos been replaced on bass by Rob Deluca from Spreadeagle /Sebastian Bach 2. UFO ‘s biggest/best. “Love to love” ” rock bottom” “doctor doctor” hits/ were co -written by Michael Schenker who joined UFO as an 18 year old gtr.plyr after Scorpions opened for them on one of their 1st tours. 3. The last time the original line up of UFO toured was in late 90s. I was lucky enough to see em at limelight, nyc somehow i sneaked in to this 21 only show, when i was 16. One of the best shows of all time as well as the last n only time i ever seen em. 4. Vinnie moore current guitar player used to play with Thin Lizzy. 5. Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden because of being inspirnd by Pete Way – thats why “Doctor doctor ” is alwayz opnding every Maiden show.
Saxon;
1. One of the first & best NWOBHM bands 2. My favorite song is Broken Heroes 3. My favorite album Rock the nations. 4. Seen Saxon couple of times even got to hang with Byff n cant wait to see em again. Metal Godz \,,/
Alright Andrew, that is some good stuff for sure so congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
Thank you Ken\,,/
These are 2 legendary bands for sure playing on the same bill – awesome!!!
1. Saw Saxon open for Triumph at the Palladium probably around 1982-3, I think, Wheels of Steel Tour, they were very heavy!
2. Always thought Biff should not wear white spandex, he’s not a sex symbol, lol!, Anyway I was there when they played L’amour in 1984 and I think also 1986, great to see in a small venue!!
3. Saw them at BB Kings last time they played with Armored Saint, about 2 years ago, I was glad to see original drummer back in the band and they played 20,000 feet really fast with heavy double bass, that was the best song of the night!!!
UFO gave been around a bit longer than Saxon I believe,
1. Vinny Moore is doing a great job and did see them with Michael Schenker when they played the Limelight I think it was in the mid 90’s.
2. Saw them at Starland Ballroom with Vinny and Metal Church, and I believe Blue Oyster Cult, they had Jason Bonham on drums which was great to see.
3. UFO is such an under rated band with hits like Rock Bottom, Lights Out, Natural Thing, Only You Can Rock Me and many, many more, I will be singing along from beginning to end of the set if I win, especially in a small setting like BB Kings where you can get close. I guess this is a co-headlining show, so who will be better??? That’s a tough one right Ken? I guess you have to be there and see for yourself, anyway it’s great that 2 great British bands are coming to New York City and Heavy Metal is still alive and well, cheers!!
Hey there Ken (I do like your name LOL)… Good reflections for sure so congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
I’ve never had the chance to see UFO or Saxon live I have always missed their shows
The closest I’ve been to UFO I have seen Schenker alone and Moore alone as well.
Saxon has the most underrated vocalist ever . This band was a main headliner back in the day in the 70’s and even now that they still rock and Quinn killing it on the axe
Power and Glory – what a masterpiece album
Denim and leather – crusader key albums
UFO – just the other band that should have filled stadiums as well scorpions abs Maiden . True pioneers of Neoclasical metal . Moore truly at his best .
Best underrated live concert recorded ever Strangers in the night – just close my eyes and always dreamed that I wished to be in that show
Love the album cover force it in that shower haha . Just crazy no limits
Off course can’t leave out the Phenomenon classic and very important piece for all the metal now
UFO are as pioneers as Sabbath back in the day .
Can’t wait to see these two monsters live for the first time . Can’t wait to get one Moores and Quinn’s picks will do a great value for my fond memories \m/
Best of UFO
Whoah Diego, how is this possible? How does one miss both of these bands on every single visit. We are fixing that right now so congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
Here are two bands that I always seem to miss when they come to NYC, on the same bill!
UFO
1. I’ve only heard UFO songs played live once, by The Michael Schenker Group, and that experience more than whet my appetite for the real deal. With all due respect to the late David Van Landing, who was singing that night, it’s not quite the same at all. Which leads me to…
2. I absolutely need to see the legendary Phil Mogg live at least once. One of the most underrated vocalists ever.
3. “Strangers in the Night” is right up there with ‘Kiss Alive”, “Unleashed in the East”, and “Cheap Trick at Budokan” as far as I’m concerned for most seminal live metal albums ever, so I believe this is a band where there is no substitute for the live experience.
Saxon
1. I only saw Saxon live once on my very first trip to L.A. at the famed (and sadly now-defunct) Key Club, standing front row center, and it was one of the loudest and most memorable shows I’ve ever been to.
2. Is there a better metal anthem and live sing-along song than “Denim & Leather” ever recorded?
3. These guys are still rocking as hard as ever and I enjoyed the hell out of their last 3 albums, “Call to Arms” especially but also “Sacrifice” and “Battering Ram”. In an era where older bands don’t find it profitable or worthwhile to record new albums, these guys still put one out every other year, and it’s always high quality music. I hope they play some of the new songs along with the classics.
Another one??? Missing them every single time? Am I not working hard enough on the site Event Calendar to keep you all in the aware? Sigh. I feel so lost, so defeated, so feeling like giving a ticket to the show to you so congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
Im not sure if I won for Uli Jon Roth but I was too depressed about my train line not running at all during the storm to check. Between not being able to get off work and being sick for a few weeks earlier in the year ive only been able to see entombed and pallbearer this year. i need my need for speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lq27JR-0xBY
UFO
1. Phenomenon
2. UFO 2: Flying
3. Force It
Saxon
1. Wheels of Steel
2.Strong Arm of the Law
3. Self Titled
Oh man Max, I am sorry to hear you missed that Uli show since it went on despite the storm and SO MANY people missed out on it. Myself included so you know I was hating on the weather that night. Hopefully you are feeling better as well and hey congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
Hello Mr. Pierce. The King of the Night Time World here. Here are my responses:
UFO:
1. Pete Way from UFO also played in Fastway. Fastway does the sound track for the movie “Trick or Treat.” Sammi the ferret was named after Sammi Curr from Trick or Treat!
2. I saw UFO once back at The Chance in Poughkeepsie. I have been meaning to see them again since, but it never works out. Would love to see them now since I know their catalog a lot more than I did then.
3. One of the best musical purchases was buying the I made in recent years was Chrysalis Years 1973-1979.
Saxon:
1. Saxon still consistently releases strong material. My favorite recent Saxon album was Into the Labyrinth. Also, the Dogs of War album from 1995 is criminally underrated.
2. Perhaps a future ferret will be named Biff!
3. I usually see Saxon every time they play but missed the last show due to a work obligation.
Hah! I think someone is trying to smooth me over based on my love of all things KISS. Flattery doesn’t really get you anywhere with these things but as luck would have it your timing was perfect so congratulations on winning one of our tickets to the Wednesday night performance of UFO/Saxon. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “If You Win This Contest” since all of the details are listed there on how you claim the prize. Enjoy the show.
Alright you lucky denizens of the Metal forces of NYC, my contest for UFO and Saxon is 100% closed and no additional submissions can be honored. Since I only had the six tickets and this is a popular show, I knew we would knock this out of the park quickly. Congratulations to all of the winners who were each notified right below their submission. Remember that this is for the WEDNESDAY EVENING performance and your name for your single ticket is on that list. Arriving Thursday and saying you won will find you very disappointed. Please refer to the part of the contest post marked “IF YOU WIN THIS CONTEST” as all details are lined out. Have a great time, I cannot attend this show and will be there for the Thursday night appearance.
A double header featuring UFO and Saxon makes this show not only must see, but can’t miss.
UFO:
1. I’ve only seen UFO once at BB King’s and have been hoping to catch them again. Although I have seen Michael Schenker Group twice where he did perform UFO songs.
2. Phill Mogg’s voice is like a fine wine only getting better with age.
3. My favorite album is their live album Strangers in the Night. This album truly captures what an amazing live band UFO is.
Saxon:
1. I first saw Saxon at BB King’s in 2009, and seems they came back to play BB Kings about every 2 years after that. I haven’t missed seeing Saxon since. I remember being amazed at how great the band still sounded after all these years.
2. Saxon is definitely one of the best NWOBHM bands. They’re distinctive hooks and riffs and catchy choruses absolutely embody everything heavy metal should be.
3. My favorite Saxon album is a toss up between Strong Arm of the Law and Denim and Leather. But, Strong Arm of the Law just edges it out mostly because of the epic Dallas 1pm.
Hope to see you at the show Ken. Cheers.
Alas this contest has closed. Good submission and better luck next time.
