The Details: Sound the trumpets of righteous battle and prepare yourself for was because the 2014 edition of Paganfest America is here and that news finds my Metal blood reaching the boiling point. For those new to the touring package, this particular event has been hitting our shores for a few years now and brings us an exciting roster of bands for sure. This year’s event finds Korpiklaani, Turisas, Chthonic and Varg as the international touring acts that will be joined by the USA forged Winterhymn as the lead off band. I have seen all of these bands in the past and know that songs will be sung long afterward and many ales will be hoisted during the event that will hit Irving Plaza when it makes a stop here. To say that my journalistic sword is sharpened in anticipation for glorious combat is an understatement and that makes me happy to announce that thanks to the fine folks at Livenation, several of the PiercingMetal Legions will be joining me in the fray on this epic night. Read on.
When and Where: Monday, April 28th at Irving Plaza (17 Irving Place, NYC)
To Participate: I hope you have your thinking caps on for this one because I am going to make you work. Considering that I saw some fans citing that they were unhappy about the bands on the package based on their having already seen them on other Paganfest’s I am offering up the chance for you to build me your own Paganfest Package. Give me four or five bands who are not on this particular touring package and whose music is perfect for the overall premise. That means no Machinehead or Skeletonwitch even though they are kick ass live bands. Brownie points if you put together groups that never before have made it here before. Mark down who would headline and why this package works out and would interest the fans around you. I will be selecting the responses that interest me most and letting the winners know directly below their comments. Be sure to enter your full real name (not just your first since its needed for the listing purposes). We also need a working email to confirm details (you will not be spammed). Only enter once as no appending will be permitted and please not that anonymous and guest submissions will be immediately disqualified. Now bring it on.
Restrictions: While all PiercingMetal.com contests are open to our regional site readers, Twitter Followers and Facebook Page Likers you should know that we tend to look at new responders first in order to give everyone a fair shot at enjoying a show on the provider and us. Of course we still encourage all to respond because you never know just how many tickets we are offering and when that last person might have won in comparison to you. I will say that the biggest restriction on this one is that if you have won anything over the last month that your chances are even less because we surely cannot have the same people winning again and again.

I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that there is a LOT of awesome music to enjoy from this roster and I have done some searching on Amazon.com to direct you to the best that they have available. Time to break open that piggy bank. Just don’t do it with a broadsword as the change will fly everywhere if you do.
First of all- this is a great package. Any time I get to see Turisas it’s a great package. As far as other worthy bands that I’d like to see:
Adorned Brood- great balance of melodic folk and kick-out-the jams riffs.
Orphaned Land- cool tunes with a progressive message.
Skyclad- Because I really want to hear their new album live!
And my headliner, and all time favorite, Arkona. Because nobody in any genre, of any gender, brings it like Masha Scream. I know they’ve done Paganfest before- but not as the headliner, which they absolutely deserve!
Nice stuff, congratulations Ann as you have won a ticket to the Paganfest show on Monday at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments and watch for one from me that closes the giveaway and lines out the details. This one is going to be fun.
Here is what I would love to see Paganfest do next year:
Blind Guardian – Paganfest needs a “bigger” name to draw the metalheads who might not be aware of some of these other bands, a proper headliner who may not be “pagan” but their power metal style would work perfectly.
Borknagar – It would be an absolute treat to see these guys perform live, and getting on a larger tour such as this might be the only way we see that happen.
Skyforger – Who the heck wouldn’t want to see Skyforger????
Thyrfing – One of the best out there, they absolutely deserve to be better known then they are right now.
Skyfire – Loved these guys for year, would fit in more with the power metal side of Blind Guardian but surely would not be out of place on the tour.
This package would be a nice blend of Power Metal, Black Metal, and Pagan Metal that would draw a wide array of metalheads and would surely be very successful.
Nice stuff, congratulations Pete as you have won a ticket to the Paganfest show on Monday at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments and watch for one from me that closes the giveaway and lines out the details. This one is going to be fun.
Moonsorrow – I feel they have earned their right to have a headlining spot on Paganfest now. Heck i think the only reason they didn’t get it was cause they are writing a new album at the moment and can’t tour. So hopefully when the new album is released. We will see them headline Paganfest one day.
Kalmah- Metsl heads have been praying to the pagan gods for these Finns to come here for a US tour. They have done 2 very successful short Canadian runs (i was lucky to have seen one with a few of my friends). Heck we all thought Kalmah would be one of the bands on this years paganfesr but to our disappointment they weren’t. i’ve heard rumors its cause of what they do for work what stops them from touring a lot. Hopefully one day we will see them here.
Kampfar – Have a new album out and they did a great run with Vreid the last time they were here that got partially ruined by the Brooklyn date being cancelled due to a hurricane and flooding. It’d be nice to see Dolk and his minions return to US for another run soon
Equilibrium – Now i’m fairly new to this band but my my i wish i wasn’t. They seem absolutely amazing. They did just lose 2 long time members to the band but they are slated to play next years 70000 tons of metal cruise still so maybe they are planning to do a tour here later around that time. But they would be epic to see on a Paganfest lineup.
Carach Angren – Not really pagan but they do sing about hauntings and ghosts and the supernatural and its somewhat works. They are trying hard to get on package here and this would of been a great in for them as there are a lot of people that want them to haunt the US.
Def would be the most brutal paganfest of all (prob the most expensive for the booking agent too lol) but i really think this kind of line up would draw a huge crowd specially for CA and Kalmah. Lol i can dream.
Nice stuff, congratulations Andrew as you have won a ticket to the Paganfest show on Monday at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments and watch for one from me that closes the giveaway and lines out the details. This one is going to be fun.
Perfect Paganfest Tour:
1)Einjerher- They would be the headliner for this Paganfest because these Norwegians are one of the most earliest viking bands out there since the early 90s and even the word Einherjer itself means “those of one army”, so we would all gather and chant to their Norse influenced lyrics together as one warriors!
2)Moonsorrow- All I have to say is “Ville Sorvali’s” black metal screams take my breath away..along with the emotion and atmospheric taste the bands bring to the stage is quite epic in itself.
3)Primordial – This band blends celtic folk influenced themes along with black metal to bring out history in their lyrics.
4)Falkenbach- They just released their newest album “Asa” and it deff needs to be heard live. Clean Vocals with a mixture of black metal and epic harmonic riffs is all we need to end the night!
These 4 bands is what would make a REAL pagan experience live in to be apart of the pagan heritage!
Nice stuff, congratulations Irina as you have won a ticket to the Paganfest show on Monday at Irving Plaza. Please stay tuned to the comments and watch for one from me that closes the giveaway and lines out the details. This one is going to be fun.
My Paganfest line up would be Melechesh headlining with Cruachan, Negura Bundet, and Lux Divina
Here’s my Paganfest lineup:
Agalloch
Orphaned Land
Melechesh
Atrocity

Eluviete – Eluveitie use traditional and interesting instruments mixed in with guitars and harsh vocals. Gaulish lyrics make this band something to look forward to.
Trollfest – Trollfest’s music is a mix of Norwegian and German, how cool is that? The band also uses of saxophones and accordions in their songs…a must see!
Finntroll – From Helsinki Finland. How much more could you ask for from a pagan band?
Ensiferum – The band name mean “sword bearing” Very awesome. A nice melodic folk band to go in with the mix. 🙂
Sheath thine swords you battle ready Metal Maniacs for the fray has been proven victorious and in other words this contest is closed. Congratulations to all of our champions. I must look into some of those bands that you suggested because they sound so awesome. Now here are the details.
