Win A Ticket For Marty Friedman @ Highline Ballroom On 8/4/2017

The Details: If you play the guitar and are a fan of the Metal and Rock side of the fence then you very possibly know the name of the great Marty Friedman who worked for a number of years alongside Dave Mustaine in Megadeth. The musician has been a solo artist for quite some time now and has released a number of albums in his new location of Japan. Every so often he decides to pay a visit to the place he once called home and deliver incendiary displays of guitar virtuosity. With that in mind we are pleased to offer up this new contest for his performance at the Highline Ballroom next week. Read on down below for the rules on how to participate in this contest ticket giveaway. This should be a good one and features Scale The Summit and The Fine Constant as support.

When and Where: Friday, August 4th @ Highline Ballroom 431 West 16th Street (New York City)

To Participate: I’ve decided to keep this an easy one and by saying that I mean I will be sticking to my usual formula of you readers giving me “3” things that you like most about Marty Friedman and his body of work. Perhaps there are albums that “spoke” to you or concert appearances that sent you to the music shop to snag some tablature – whatever. Just give me three solid answers and how important it is to be at this show. I know I make you work but I work here too so whining will not win out at all LOL. Make this good reading because the stuff remains on the website and can likely inspire new fans as well on how our freebies work. Writing “because he rocks dude” is just too un-original and boring. I’ll be responding to the comments that I like most right below their answer. Kindly review some guidelines before entering your submission.

– Enter only enter once. The comments are moderated and will not appear immediately after submission.
– Number them for ease of knowing if you followed the instructions or not if I’ve asked for a list.
– Please enter your full real name in the comment form along with an email address that you can be reached at if you win. This is necessary for listing purposes. Please do NOT put this information in the comment itself out of privacy concerns.
– Only enter if you can and will attend the show should you win and it’s logistically possible for you to do so. Essentially if you live a couple of hundred miles away we don’t think you’re coming here for a show in NYC.
– Subscribe to the comments and check back to see the responses so you know if you won or not.
– Make sure you are entering a NEW comment and not replying to another contestant’s entry as that makes notifying you difficult should you be marked as a winner.

Please be aware that this is for a “SINGLE TICKET ONLY” and no plus ones or guest requests can or will be honored. No exceptions. Bring it on as this one will close by noon on the day of show or when our allotment has been depleted.

Restrictions: All PiercingMetal contests are open to our loyal readers and Social Network followers but that said we are still looking for the new names first. Don’t let that stop you from entering of course but we do keep track based on the overall demand for this stuff at this point. We want EVERYONE to have a chance to enjoy a show on the provider and PiercingMetal but if you just won a contest recently you will likely not have a chance for this one. Please note that Anonymous or Guest comments will not be approved.

If You Win This Contest: If you are marked as one of the winners for this contest, here is how to claim the ticket. On the night of the show go to the venue podium and ask for the House Guest List. Please bring proper identification (driver’s license, passport, NYC ID card) and your name will be checked off that list for you to enter. If you encounter any difficulty, please politely ask for an onsite manager and cite how this contest was done in coordination with venue Marketing and PiercingMetal.com. Check the show listings that night so you arrive with plenty of time to get a good spot. You can also expect an email to the provided address reminding you of the win so make sure that @piercingmetal.com is listed as a safe domain to receive notes from.

  1. Marty Friedman is one of my favorite guitarists. His unique melodies really set him apart from others. I have not heard any other guitarist play in the same style, though I am sure many have tried. His instrumental debut on Shrapnel, Dragon’s Kiss, is still one of the best guitar albums ever recorded. Wild Eastern influenced melodies are mesmerizing and technically breathtaking. Phenomenal technique is a given in the shred genre, but very few perform it with such soul. It really takes you to a different place . Megadeth’s Rust in Piece album is another great showcase for Friedman’s unpredictable solos. To this day people argue how close any of his successors in the band came to matching Friedman’s genius when performing songs like Tornado of Souls live. I am happy he is back in shred business cranking out some quality albums in the last few years. I have never witnessed his magic live though , so I hope to change that next week.

  2. What on earth happened Marty Friedman? Oh yeah, his successful solo career happened. And it’s exponentially turned Marty into a house hold name, which was one of the coolest things we could ever know about.

Some other cool things to note:

-Marty will be on tour soon. His new solo album “Wall of Sound” sounds impeccable as always, and his guitar playing is nothing short of amazing.

-Marty easily has 100+ people in the middle of the room air shredding along with the other half having their fists in the air. Exceptional.

-Also, Marty played on some Megadeth’s best albums – “Rust in Peace” is always an essential record to check out.

  3. Loved his solo album Dragon’s Kiss, the opener Sauration Point has kind of a middle eastern feel in the riffs.

His album with Jason Becker, Speed Metal Symphony is another good one with the title song being almost ten minutes.

He plays on a Alice Cooper tribute album with Megadeath covering Schools Out that is heavier than the original.

I have seen Marty with Megadeath a few times, I think him and Dave pushed each other to another level live!, especially in Holy Wars!

To see him live doing solo material again would be great and having Scale the summit open us a plus, cheers!

  4. Marty Friedman is deff one of my top guitarist that I have followed through out the years when I first tried to learn guitar when I was a teenager .
His work in Cacophony and Megadeth in the early years have intrigued me to follow his solo work .
One of my favorite albums that spoke to me was “Bad D.N.A.”, especially the song “Battle Scars” .
First time I saw him perform was back in 2015 at Gramercy in NYC ,and it was deff one of my guitarist that I can say I crossed out from my bucket lists of musicians that have been my inspiration from my early teen years that brought back memories of my attempts to play guitar lol. For now ill stick with watching the master perform live 😀

  6. 3. The first Cacophony Record with Friedman and Jason Becker is an incredible display of guitar virtuosity and an album all guitar players should count as “essential” listening

    2. The title track “inferno” off the album “inferno” is in my mind the heaviest song Friedman has ever put out.

    1. Tornado of Souls solo. Very little needs to be said, one of the greatest metal guitar solos of all time.

  7. 1. I appreciate instrumental music and Marty Friedman delivers plenty of it. :). I think we need more bands that play instrumental music, so we don’t get distracted by lyrics and are able to hear the instruments “speaking”.

    2. It goes without saying that Marty is an extremely talented musician and guitarist, so seeing him live is a real treat that doesn’t happen too often.

    3. Last, but not least, Marty was part of the great band Megadeth, my favorite album was recorded with him on guitar, so hopefully we’ll see him a couple of Megadeth songs performed as well.

  8. Alright my friends this contest is 100% officially closed so no additional submissions will be honored. Congratulations to all of our winners who were each notified beneath their entry.
