The Details: I have said this before and I shall do so once again, King’s X are road warriors and one of the best sounding bands that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in concert and I have to say that they have not disappointed their fans yet in terms of great gigs and solid recordings. Those of you who have similar experiences are likely nodding your heads along to the statement and yet despite this there are far too many people that have not a single idea about what this band holds in their musical grasp. 2015 finds them still pushing forward with the musical charge after some adversity and it wasn’t too long ago that the seminal “Gretchen Goes To Nebraska” hit the quarter century mark. (click the text for our toast to this musical milestone). With that being said, I am once again super excited to say that thanks to the folks from CEG Presents, some lucky PiercingMetal fans will be hitting the show for free when they hit the beautiful Stage 48 club on the West Side. Read more on how you get in on this. According to the poster the band will be joined by DJ Alex Kayne and the band Riffhanger as support.
When and Where: Saturday, June 27th at Stage 48 (650 West 48th Street). 7pm showtime (openers)
To Participate: Tell me three things that you like the most about King’s X as a band and why you need to be a part of this show. I will be picking a few lucky winners out of the responders and letting them know right below their comment so make it a good one. We ask that you please follow this criteria:
– Enter only enter once. The comments are moderated and will not appear immediately after submission.
– Number them for ease of knowing if you followed the instructions or not.
– Please enter your full real name in the comment form along with an email address that you can be reached at if you win. This is necessary for listing purposes. Please do NOT put this information in the comment itself out of privacy concerns.
– Only enter if you can and will attend the show should you win and it’s logistically possible to do so. Essentially if you live a couple of hundred miles away we don’t think you’re coming here for a show in NYC.
– Subscribe to the comments and check back to see them so you know if you won or not.
– Make sure you are entering a NEW comment and not replying to another contestant’s entry as that makes notifying you difficult.
Bring it on as this one will close by noon on the day before the show or when allotment has been depleted. Thanks so much.
Restrictions: While all PiercingMetal.com contests are open to our regional site readers, Facebook Page likers and Twitter Followers we do look at new responders first in order to give everyone a fair shot at enjoying a show on the provider and us. I do still encourage all to participate because you never know just how many tickets we are offering and when that last person might have won. Please note that Guest and Anonymous comments while approved are NOT eligible to win the contest.
If You Win This Contest: If you are marked as one of the winners for this contest, here is how to claim the ticket. On the night of the show go to the venue Box Office and ask for the House Guest List. Please bring proper identification (driver’s license, passport, NYC ID card) and your name will be checked off for you to enter. If you encounter any difficulty please politely ask for an onsite manager and cite how this contest was done in coordination with venue Marketing and PiercingMetal.com. You can also expect an email to the provided address reminding you of the win so make sure that @piercingmetal.com is listed as a safe domain to receive notes from.

Do you have any King’s X in your collection? I hope that you just answered “yes” but if you didn’t, here are a whole bunch of necessary albums from the King’s X catalog.
I love King’s X because they are like family. Their connection with fans is second to none and they play music from deep within their souls.
Hey Jeff, I generally expect a little more “oomph” in these submissions but I will let you slide this time around. Congrats on winning one of our tickets for the King’s X show this Saturday at Stage 48. Please refer to the contest post section “If You Win This Contest” as all necessary details are posted there. Enjoy the show.
3 Things I Like About King’s X:
1) Their songwriting. There are many thing people can love or hate about musicians, but in the end, hundreds of years from now, all that will be left is the music itself. King’s X creates unique, innovative and emotionally-resonant music, and has done so for 3 decades. The compositions carry their unique personalities the way few composers manage to do.
2) Their honesty. King’s X could write great music and be the most arrogant assholes in the world, but they’re not. Part of their unique formula is a humility you don’t find in most rock bands. This is reflected in their lyrics, their work ethic, and their general public persona- these guys never forget that they’re people, on the same level as their fans, just trying to get through life.
3) Their creativity. 15 albums into their career, King’s X avoids getting stale. They attack each album with renewed vigor, never sounding like they’re going through the motions. A lot of artists lose steam as they get older, but King’s X has managed to avoid that trap, clearly infused with their muse even today. They clearly don’t do it for the money (what money?) so it’s an honor to be a part of their world.
For those reasons, I would love to get a ticket for their show on Saturday. The last time I saw them was waaaay too long ago- I was a young guy and the band’s music has carried me through good and bad times for the last couple of decades. I swore I would go see them the next time they toured, before it’s too late (we’re all getting older) and I can’t miss this rare opportunity to support them and enjoy their great art.
Hello Guillermo, Good stuff here man. Congrats on winning one of our tickets for the King’s X show this Saturday at Stage 48. Please refer to the contest post section “If You Win This Contest” as all necessary details are posted there. Enjoy the show.
wow, this made my year! Thanks, Ken!!!
Only 3 reasons? Really? It’s so hard to think of just three for me because so much about Kings X has been a part of my life.
1) The second song I ever learned on Guitar was “Over My Head”…. (The first being Don’t Dog Me by Raging Slab) with the reason why it was second being my own doubt to be able to possibly play anything that I hear Ty Tabor do on his guitar. I saw the music video on Headbangers Ball and played it over and over again on the VHS tape until I finally got my Dad to drive me to Woolworths to get the Megaforce Records cassette lol!
2) their album “Faith, Hope, Love” got me through a very awkward stage in my life. I was dealing in school with an extreme bullying situation and the messages of the Lyrics effected me in a very positive way. Plus they felt like something I could call my own, with many of my friends being fans of popular rock bands, I felt Kings X offered many different elements that you’d find in the others, together in one. The musical songwriting ability of Lennon/ McCartney with the musicianship of Rush and Vocal Power of R&B/ Gospel that I also listened to (and still do as well)
3) Faith. They have always been very honest in their faith. They are not preachy but the inner honest struggles of Doug’s lyrics have helped me on my faith walk. Allowed me to see that I can talk and question honestly but also not have to be wrapped up in a label in my own art.
Though I live in CT, I’m a 40 minute train ride in and I already cleared my calendar to come to this show. The last time I saw them was in 1997 at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and it blew my mind. It’s also blew me away that they are still touring and playing. With their discography I’m very excited to see what the playlist will consist of! …and as the prior post-er said, who knows how much longer I will get a chance to see them again.
Hey Tobias, that is some great and honest stuff for sure. Thank you for sharing and oh yes…..Congrats on winning one of our tickets for the King’s X show this Saturday at Stage 48. Please refer to the contest post section “If You Win This Contest” as all necessary details are posted there. Enjoy the show.
PS: We know folks from CT can make the shows, its just proven super difficult when you are several hours away as was learned in the past. Thanks for the submission.
A truly heartfelt Thank You! for making my week! I’m very very excited for Saturday night and will definitely be on the train early to make sure I get there! Thank You truly and hope if I see you there you’ll except a hearty handshake and a cold beverage of your choice!
1) True originality. You don’t hear the great music of Kings X around.. There is a lot of reprocessed music out there and it’s just too tiring for my ears. King’s X brings originality to the table and that’s what I want to continue hearing, great lyrics and rocking instrumentals, They have always provided us with it.
2) The band that they are. I understand that the band members are cool, everyday good guys. They do have popularity but have not blown out of proportion. After all these years they continue to pour their heart into the soul of their music.. As a listener, I appreciate that in an artist. Not the pop band that eventually lost ground but the one that continues to keep it low key and drives it home with great quality music every time. You got to love that in King’s X.
3) Cool album covers. They are from a time when album covers meant something. I felt that King’s X’s cover art plus the entire issue matched the songs that were being played within the album. It was always a good time to put on one of their albums, sometimes to just lounge out and look over the album’s art work..
I have been listening to Kings X since my early days in College, from back in 1990. A number of times I had played them on our College radio, during some of my DeeJay years. I still own several of their albums and play them often. I would love a ticket to see them play on Saturday. It would be a great honor to be there, cheering on a band that I have loved for a long time.
Such good stuff about the band Joseph and thank you for putting the time in on the submission. Congrats on winning one of our tickets for the King’s X show this Saturday at Stage 48. Please refer to the contest post section “If You Win This Contest” as all necessary details are posted there. Enjoy the show.
Many, Many Thanks Ken for the ticket. I am looking forward to tomorrow nights show. Hopefully I will see you there!
Where to begin here!
1. Let’s start with consistency! These guy have been around so long and while not every album has been Gretchen.. or Dogman, you are certain to always find several gems on each album they’ve made, that make it worth your while.
2. In addition to underrated, which any KX fan will tell you, these guys have also influenced far more bands than they can count or probably are even aware of. Ever listen to Collective Soul? While I’ve tried hard not to, these dudes full on stole from KX! Wonder if they would admit to it? Pearl Jam are certainly influenced, as Jeff Ament is a big fan and buds with Dug. Guessing Pantera was also, though you’d not heard it so much, but they did play many shows together in TX in the early days.
3. Lastly, Dug, Jerry and Ty are always incredibly nice, gracious, kind and patient with the fans and willing to hang out and chat with the fans. Extremely solid human beings!
So yeah, I could go on. Starting seeing these guys in the early 90’s while living in FL, and see them tons of times, so only seems right to go again and support. They could of hung it up when Jerry was ill, but nope, they keep going. Like the Energizer bunny of American rock!
It’s all good to me Daniel thanks for the submission. Congrats on winning one of our tickets for the King’s X show this Saturday at Stage 48. Please refer to the contest post section “If You Win This Contest” as all necessary details are posted there. Enjoy the show.
Ken, Thanks a ton! Hoping the band has the new vinyl pressings with them, so I can support and pick these up in person. I’ll be sure to thank you as well, if I see you there.
