From the looks of it, 2018 is going to be a year that is loaded with exciting movies and I am not only talking about the superhero stuff that we love so much over here at the Media Command HQ but also in the Science Fiction realm. Okay there are also some terrifying Horror films coming too but that is a topic for a different post. This next trailer feature is from Warner Brothers Pictures and their upcoming film “Ready Player One”. Take a look.
The Premise: In the year 2045, much of Earth’s population centers have become slum-like cities due to overpopulation, pollution, corruption, and climate change. To escape their desolation, people engage in the virtual reality world of the OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation), where they can engage in numerous activities for work, education, and entertainment.
Wade Watts is a teenager from Columbus, Ohio who frequents the OASIS and attempts to win “Anorak’s Quest”, a game created by the recently-deceased creator of the OASIS, James Halliday, in search of its Easter Egg. The winner is to be granted full ownership of the OASIS and Halliday’s $500 billion fortune. While Wade works with several friends from the OASIS to discover Anorak’s treasure, Innovative Online Industries (IOI), an evil corporation lead by CEO Nolan Sorrento, employs a number of Sixers to try to discover the treasure first and seize control of OASIS for themselves.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As I am not too up on this property I will not add much to this editorial closing. I will say that this film looks fun and seems to bring a little bit of “Tron”, “Running Man” and “Last Action Hero” to mind if I can draw some quick comparisons on the short clip. The presented “Oasis” is loaded with references that I recognized right away and I think it might be fun to see this during its early theatrical run but that all depends on my schedule. Lots of shows and conventions to deal with. What did you readers think of this one? Did you enjoy it? I wonder if we shall see a second trailer before this comes out. That’s going to be towards the end of March if my data is correct.
