As previously discussed, there is a brand new Mummy film coming out this year and its not only going to to be a reboot of the one from a bunch of years ago that starred Brendan Fraser against an ancient evil but its the first film in a new shared universe that features a whole mess of the Universal Monsters. This film stars Tom Cruise who goes head to head against an ancient bit of nasty. Check out the Universal Pictures trailer which was revealed just a short while ago.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: With the first trailer I felt I said my piece and to reiterate that I said “Welcome To A New World Of Gods and Monsters” brrrr, that is chilling but one is to expect such a thing when dealing with a walking mummy that is intent on our doom. This time around we get a female protagonist as the monster and it calls to mind the vampire queen Akasha for me. It sure looked interesting from the first trailer and this continues onto the second despite my being of the mind that they showed too much. Now the idea of a shared universe of the Universal Monsters is not something completely new as we’ve seen Frankenstein meet the Wolfman in a film that bears the same name and let’s not forget the super classic “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein” that pits our cowardly duo against Frankie, Dracula, The Wolfman and more. As a new premise this appeals to me greatly as I love the idea of tying things together for the sake of a better film going experience. Just look at how well this has worked for the Marvel Studios stuff and eventually will for the DC Extended Universe. As I have noted, the trailer sure looked exciting and loaded with the modern special effects to make this something else on the big screen and an eventual keeper in your video collection. Count me in on this for sure when it comes out. What do you readers think of the trailer and the idea of a Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. Let me know in the comments section below.
