Over the last couple of years I’ve been trying to add more of the Horror film releases to our archive of Film narratives in our Pop Culture section of the site and while most have been pure Horror there are also films like “Freaky”. This one is more of a Horror/Comedy and comes from the folks that brought us “Happy Death Day” which I loved the look of but still haven’t gotten around to seeing. Check out the first trailer for this Universal Pictures release along with the premise and casting and I will return with that editorial opinion that you long for 😉
The Premise: Tormented high school student, Millie Kessler, becomes the newest target of Barney Garris, an infamous serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher, during her senior year. When the killer’s magic dagger causes her to swap bodies with him, Millie discovers she has only a day to reverse the switch or else remain trapped as a middle-aged murderer hunted by the city, while the real killer – in her body – targets her classmates at Homecoming.
The Cast/Characters:
Vince Vaughn as Barney Garris/Millie Kessler
Kathryn Newton as Millie Kessler/Barney Garris
Katie Finneran as Paula Kessler
Celeste O’Connor as Nyla
Alan Ruck
Misha Osherovich as Josh
Uriah Shelton as Booker

PiercingMetal Thoughts: This trailer was quirky fun for sure and had a whole comic book vibe to it for me. I used to read some of the old spooky comics way back when and many of them had these kinds of weird swaps to them. This films title is even a play on the classic “Freaky Friday” where the younger person becomes the older and vice versa. The only difference being in this case is that one is a serial killer and the other is just an outcast teenager. Wild. The film is set to open sometime in November so we have plenty of time to hope for some normalcy by then. What did you think about this trailer? Did you enjoy its weirdness? Chime in down below in the comments with your thoughts and I will see you again soon for sure.
