Are you ready for the things that go “bump” in the night? Well if you aren’t that is just too bad because tonight on Showtime, the third season of the original series “Penny Dreadful” begins. Check out the season poster, premise and main cast. Then I’ll return.

The Premise:
Penny Dreadful is a British–American horror drama television series created and written by John Logan, who serves as executive producer along with Sam Mendes and Pippa Harris. The title refers to the penny dreadfuls, a type of 19th-century cheap British fiction publication with lurid and sensational subject matter. The series draws upon many public-domain characters from 19th-century Irish and British fiction, including Dorian Gray from Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray, Mina Harker and Abraham Van Helsing from Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Victor Frankenstein and his monster from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, and Dr. Henry Jekyll from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Main Cast:
Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray
Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm Murray
Eva Green as Vanessa Ives
Rory Kinnear as The Creature
Billie Piper as Brona Croft/Lily Frankenstein
Danny Sapani as Sembene
Harry Treadaway as Dr. Victor Frankenstein
Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler (real name Ethan Lawrence Talbot)
Helen McCrory as Evelyn Poole
Simon Russell Beale as Ferdinand Lyle
Patti LuPone as Dr. Seward
Wes Studi as Kaetenay

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’ve really enjoyed the first two seasons of the show and think that this one will be no different for me. The cast of characters are just so interesting and the stories have been compelling in terms of a Horror framework. Have you readers seen the show yet? Trust me its rather good and has surpassed the once super popular “True Blood” in my book. If you have not yet seen the first seasons I suggest you look into those first and then catch up with the new season. Just make sure you program that DVR properly to not miss out. As I stressed you will need a subscription to Showtime for this series or an access code to one of the online streaming services via a mobile device. I know Playstation has Vue and I think this lets you access the pay stations. Let me know what you think of this series if you are a fan in the comments below.
