Hey there my friends, I am starting off your weekend early with a little reminder because today is not only the “Free Comic Book Day” for 2026, but its also “Comics Giveaway Day”. The latter is a brand-new event that comes care of the folks over at Penguin Random House who now are distributing a whole lot of comics now that Diamond Distribution has gone out of business. The original “Free Comic Book Day” is being curated by the Universal Distribution Network and will feature the titles from the companies that did not move over to PRH. There are almost “50” different titles to choose from which I think is pretty cool.
As I’ve generally lined out my plans for the event in the posts of the past let me do that right now. Since last we met, my own LCS of Galaxy Comics in Bay Ridge has closed their doors with the parent store in Park Slope being the remaining one. The Ridge store was not participating in this for a couple of years now so I will be heading to Park Slope first and then off to the city for a visit to Forbidden Planet, Midtown Comics and the learned about last year Montasy Comics. It was pretty amusing to learn about a store that had been there for years so long afterwards but I digress.
Once again I am starting off my adventures early but this time its based on my also having a crushing Metal show to attend later on tonight when the mighty Behemoth sets their sights on the Palladium Times Square. Once I am done with all of the FCBD and CGD stuff I have to head home and get all of my concert reporter tech. Before I go into the wild please let me remind you that FCBD and now CGD are free to the customer but NOT free to the retailer so bring a little extra cash along to add some action figures, collected editions, Funko Pops or general collecting supplies to show your thanks.
