After spending a majority of my day at one of the Pop Culture conventions, I arrived home to the Media Command HQ to a flurry of messages and notices that mentioned that the famed Greenpoint, Brooklyn Metal Club, Saint Vitus Bar had officially closed its doors. At the time this was all social media engagement and nothing was on their official channels. Our readers might recall that the bar has had its doors closed for several months after a late night raid that was documented on the website in a post found HERE. However, while the news was buzzing, I held back on posting it until seeing something from the owners and that brief comment about it all is below.
The Owners Brief:
1120 Manhattan Ave. 2011-2024 – Saint Vitus Bar to be continued…
Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. Love and Hails,
Arty, George, David

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Since the time of its hoped for only temporary closure, Vitus had launched into a “Vitus Presents” model and used other venues around the city. It is a damned shame to learn that a re-opening shall not happen and that there isn’t even the chance to have one final Heavy Metal Hoopla as a farewell to the place. I cannot think straight right now and will be compiling some additional thoughts on this soon. Were you a regular at Saint Vitus Bar? Chime in down below in the comments and let me know some of your favorite memories from the place.

We (“Cirith Ungol”) were going to play 2 sold out shows there with our good friends Sanhedrin, fortunately St. Vitus Presents has moved the show to October 29, 2024 at the Meadows. Unfortunately we will never play this historic venue………..We just recently played “The Zoo” in Brisbane before it closed, so unfortunately metal clubs are an endangered species.
Very sad. And while I’m not certain of the details surrounding their closing, it sounds like some shady stuff went down. First of all, it was apparently raided during a show. Didn’t the mayor just recently say that the city was going to try to avoid doing that sort of thing? And if the violations alleged were in place for as long as I’ve seen claimed, it seems kind of suspicious that they would go unnoticed until now. And I don’t know if you’ve heard about the person who apparently reported the club, but if what I’ve read about this person is true, it makes the club’s closing even more upsetting.
