It was back during the 2017 Toy Fair in February that I first learned of the Super7 work in progress “ReAction Figures” that would bring Iron Maiden’s famous mascot Eddie to action figure collectors everywhere but unfortunately there was not yet a prototype to see and only scaled cardboard image to examine. Months later at NY Comic Con there were some prototypes to examine but not to purchase. I shared that image as fast as possible on our Official Instagram and am repeating it here for those who might not have been following us yet.
Now the time for waiting is over, well, kinda sorta since we still have a week to wait until these awesome action figures can be ordered. Behold the full first series of Eddies – There are four in total and each showcases a different character that the famed mascot became on an album or song. I’ve used the company’s official photography since they did such a fine job of presenting them.
Thought I don’t think that I need to cite which one is which, the earliest Eddie we will find made comes from the “Killers” album, which as you know is the bands sophomore album. So many great songs on that one, and hey, “Careful with that axe Eddie”.
Eddie as “The Trooper” comes from the song of the same name which was on the bands “Piece Of Mind” album. This release also gave us the drumming of Nicko McBrain for the first time as the new member of the band.
Now it’s onto the bands “”Powerslave” album where Eddie is serving in the Royal British Air Force in his “Aces High” pilot ensemble. That song was the bands tour opening for years and to say that it shot you like a bolt of lighting in concert is an understatement.
Last but not least here is Pharoah Eddie also from the bands “Powerslave” album. I think this one is my favorite and perhaps its because the very first time that I was able to catch Maiden in concert was at during the Powerslave tour when they played Radio City Music Hall for a few consecutive nights.
PiercingMetal Thoughts: It’s without question that I am getting myself a set of these. They will work in perfect company with the Bif Bang Pow KISS figures that I have on my Wish List and my now vintage Star Wars and 3.75″ GI Joe’s (yeah I still have that stuff in storage somewhere). Making these the same size as the classic “Star Wars” action figures from days of old was a fantastic idea since its going to bring a lot of people back in time care of their favorite band. Having spoken to the company powers that be during both Toy Fair and NY Comic Con, its safe to say that these four will not be the only Eddie’s that will be hitting the shelves. As I close the post up I wonder what you readers think about these collectibles. Will you be picking them all up or does only one or two speak to you? If so which one are you most excited about from the four and for that matter what Eddie do you want to see joining the series? I think that I’d like to see the Cyborg from “Somewhere In Time” and maybe even the “Seventh Son” one. There are so many awesome looking Eddies when it comes down to it. Oh yeah and before I go, let me ask you to scroll up to that Instagram I posted once more. In that photo you will also see some smaller Eddies and they are done in the style of the old “Mighty Muscle Men” figurines. They were only an inch or so high and came in so many designs. They were a hoot and since Super7 loves bringing the old back as something new this made sense. As we learn more about those figures I will post in our Toys area. Alright, that’s all I have for now, and am packing up my gear for the Wintercon convention at the Resorts Casino in Queens that’s happening this weekend. Hoping to see a lot of you area fans over there too.
