So I was reading the emails about the upcoming tours and releases and this little bit of copy really stood out for me so check it out – “If flaccid, identikit, breakdown-laden “metal” is the disease, Necromancing The Stone is the cure. With their upcoming debut full-length, Jewel Of The Vile, the group – featuring current/former members of Arsis (James Malone, guitars), The Absence (Jeramie Kling, drums), The Black Dahlia Murder (Ryan “Bart” Williams, bass) and Brimstone Coven (guitarist Justin Wood and vocalist “Big” John Williams) – plans to vanquish “Breakdownicus Gratuitous””
That’s a pretty grandiose and dramatic statement don’t you think? Well the only way to firm it up as truth is to listen to this first single with “The Siren’s Call” and I have to say that as an introduction to a band that I had never before heard of, this is a hard slap in the teeth at the end of the day. Furious double bass drums bring us right into the lead guitar riffs of Malone and having followed his work with Arsis, I found it interesting to hear him playing this kind of Metal. Mind you I love this style as it’s a call back to the earliest Power Metal that got me super-stoked for more and more and made me firm up my resolve at supporting the stuff that needs it a lot more. The drums of Kling keep on pounding throughout while the melodious vocal roar of “Big” John hit some seriously high registers that will find you singing along with him when you are not banging your head. As noted above the debut “Jewel Of The Vile” will be focused on its mission but we have over a month or so to wait until we can get a copy on Metal Blade Records. My countdown begins now……
