In a few short weeks the worldwide fans of the Finnish Rock Gods of HIM will get to indulge in their latest offering “Venus Doom” but in order to start the salivating a little earlier they have dished out the first single “The Kiss Of Dawn”. Since I love discussing all things HIM with the readers here are a few thoughts about the tune. From the onset it struck me as a heavier and more doomish tune, so I am guessing that overall “Venus Doom” will be a harder edged album.
It’s interesting to focus on the calm of Valo’s vocal register under a super heavy riff like “TKOD” offers up but this particular track didn’t catch me as fast as some of their other ones had. I guess with this one it will take a few more listens but the good thing to note is that they are continuing to play with their presentation in terms of sound. I think the part that I liked the best was the lead guitar break by Linde who shows that he is a truly capable player but most of us already knew that. We don’t have a long wait ahead for the full on “Venus Doom” so I will close up on that note. If another single is revealed beforehand I’ll consider discussing it here as well.
