I was one of the guests that was late to the party when it came to The Pretty Reckless, that bluesy-Hard Rock band fronted by Taylor Momsen but after catching them in concert a couple of times over the recent years have to say that they are one of those bands you need to follow. “Take Me Down” is the first single from their forthcoming album “Who You Selling For” and after giving a quick few listens I have to say that if there is more like this one on the album, then we are going to have a great time checking them out in concert once again when their touring cycle begins in October. Let’s talk about the track a little more.
The tune starts off with an almost Rolling Stones vibe and a riff that brought me back to “Sympathy For The Devil” and in a sense there is a lot of that coming into play here and there as the song plays through. The storyline is solid and finds Taylor heading down into those deep dark recesses for a meeting with the Lord of the Darkness to secure her Rock and Roll greatness and while I really enjoyed the overall groove of the tune, when the chorus came up I was singing along and that’s saying something. At the end of the tune Taylor chuckles and says “I got a record deal”. Clearly equating something along the lines that such a contract is akin to a deal with the devil nowadays for a band – Stranger things have happened (insert sinister laughter here). I’m looking forward to this new album for sure.
