I can hardly believe that I am writing this but I am got for today marks the 20th Anniversary of the release of “Christmas Eve and Other Stories” by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It was the group’s first album and it blew me away from the very first listen and I can proudly say that I have been listening to this recording since it was released. My introduction to them is on the amusing side because I had been a longtime fan of the band Savatage and was keeping up with their releases as they appeared at the record shop and found the sounds on the album “Dead Winter Dead” to be something very, very different. In my mind the band always pushed the creative envelope and were more than a typical Heavy Metal band but with this body of work there was a grandiose nature to it and even a sense of cinematic or Broadway drama. This was of course due to the creative genius of Paul O’Neill and Jon Oliva who wrote and composed this one from beginning to end. When that album reached the track of “Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)” I was floored. Yeah I had listened to Heavy Metal Christmas tracks when I heard them but they were few and far between at the time. Stryper had a good one but most of the rest were just Rock artists. This was new and quite different to my aural senses. Continue reading Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Debut “Christmas Eve & Other Stories”; A Modern Classic At 20 Years→
Hey there readers and welcome back to the presentation of “New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”; I am really glad that you are joining us along for the series because it’s such a blast giving everyone a look inside the thoughts of these musical people. I’ll stop talking now and let you get right into it since there are many more chapters for me to share additional opinions with you. Have at it.
1. Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger/Trans-Siberian Orchestra/Rock Of Ages): My 2013 New Year’s Music Resolution is to CONTINUE to work as hard as possible and appreciate every second of the best job on planet Earth!…and meeting Angus Young would be bad ass 🙂
2. Tim Roth (Into Eternity): My New Year’s Metal Resolution for 2013 would be, to continue my daily listening, of the latest Yngwie J. Malmsteen album entitled, “Spellbound”. I think we all could learn a lesson or two about the relentless drive, that Yngwie has towards pushing the envelope of Neo-Classical Metal. I vow also, to continue to teach my 4 year old son, Lucca Jacob Yngwie Roth, the ways of the Jedi Shred Legend that is and only could be, Yngwie J. Malmsteen! In addition, I would like to spend more time on PiercingMetal.com and I’d love to see my musical group, Into Eternity, head back to Europe AND release our long overdue 6th album.
3. Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot): 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the release of “Metal Health” and I plan to continue to bring the music of QUIET RIOT to the fans and to keep the memory of Kevin DuBrow alive and well through the music that he and I never took for granted and have so much pride in. That is my singular New Year’s Music Resolution for 2013. Continue reading New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 2→
With Christmas now out of the way and Chanukah pretty close to ending as well our minds gets focused on the plans for the coming new year. We seem to always strive to change something in ourselves or do things a little differently from before when a new year begins and this got me to thinking a little bit. I wondered aloud about what the New Years Metal Resolutions for 2012 might be for some of the talented people that I have been fortunate enough to meet or communicate with in my role as founder of the PiercingMetal.com website. With that in mind I put the question out there and asked them to complete the sentence “My New Year’s Metal Resolution for 2012 Is….”
The first few responses are below and I’ll be adding a new post each day as 2011 counts down toward its close. I hope you enjoy them.
Carmine Appice (legendary drummer of Cactus, Vanilla Fudge, King Kobra, Blue Murder (whew…): My New Year’s Musical Resolution for 2012 Is to play with an even wider variety of artists and musicians.
Zak Stevens (lead vocals for Circle II Circle): My New Year’s Metal Resolution is to bring my music to as many fans in the world as possible this year. This is one of those “be careful what you asked for” years….Even though the task is daunting, it’s time to bring things to a new level in 2012! Horns up and pierce the world with metal!!
