Artist: The Lynch Mob Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY) Opener: Sonic Bliss, Willie Basse Date: 1/31/2011 Label: Frontiers Records
It was exactly six months to the day when I last caught a once again touring Lynch Mob and that was when the band was acting as direct support for the Michael Schenker Group back in July. The show was great but Lynch and his merry mates only played about seven songs which left the fans that were excited to see him up there again leaving slightly disappointed with the short set. That made tonight’s appearance at B.B. King’s something that they were looking forward to because it was announced that he would be performing a combined “Best Of” set of both Lynch Mob and Dokken material with his band. I had to admit that this interested me very much especially when you considered how drummer “Wild” Mick Brown was once again working with the axe slinger. That made this particular configuration of the group as close to the original as possible with the exception of original bassist Anthony Esposito. The second change in the lineup for tonight would be on bass, as Robbie Crane from Ratt was in place for this go round. The openers listed for the show would be both Sonic Bliss and Wille Basse but I would not catch them and only focus my attention on Mr. Lynch. Continue reading Lynch Mob @ B.B. Artist: Ted Nugent Title: “Motor City Mayhem” [Blu-ray] Label: Eagle Vision Release Date: 6/30/2009 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: 4/5
Having reviewed this DVD when it originally was released on standard edition DVD and finding no real difference other than the presentation on the Blu-ray medium I am re-presenting my words about this issue for those fans who might not own it yet. Please continue.
While it’s probably safe to say that if you have seen one Ted Nugent live video concert then you have seen them all since many follow a particular standard when it comes to the set list and one can always count on Uncle Ted being at his audience appeasing best with the guitar and his electric dialogue. That being said this particular DVD is yards ahead of the many that have preceded it and that’s because this is one of total celebration of a life lived and breathed in the fires of Hard Rock & Roll. Presenting “Motor City Mayhem”, the 6000th official show ever done by the musician, filmed in front of a hometown audience on July 4th 2008. It doesn’t get any more American if you ask me and the show starts off with a bang as members of the US Armed Forces greet the musician and as he enters and performs “The Star Spangled Banner”, an absolutely stunning young bikini clad model pops out of a giant cake. Talk about getting a party started right, and through it all Ted is his humble self telling the audience to wish him a happy anniversary before he kicks the show into gear. Of course no one seemed to be complaining by the looks of the crowd in the video. The live performance comes released to the masses a few short months after the CD that bore the same name and presented the full set on two discs for his fans to enjoy. Now the Nugent completist can properly see just what the audio teased them about by showcasing it on a nice big TV with the speakers pumping at full volume. I love Uncle Ted as much as the next guy but I am wondering if we really needed yet another live concert album to be the follow up to his last release which was of course another live recording called “Sweden Rocks”. I am starting to think that Uncle Ted is vying for the record that is currently held by KISS and Iron Maiden in terms of live concert releases because at this rate he is really coming close. That being said, the July 4th 2008 concert that is presented here on two CD’s is actually a special one because it marks Uncle Ted’s 6000th show according to his calculations. Anyone whose ever listened to a live Nugent album knows full well that they are a hoot in terms of their entertaining banter and often a kick ass time in terms of the music that’s being executed. Ted is a legend and while I am wondering how he managed to keep track of 6000 shows, I surely think he deserves kudos for always striving to give the audience his best. Artist: Dokken Title: “The Definitive Rock Collection” Label: Rhino Entertainment Release Date: 4/26/2006 Genre: Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Rating: 4/5
For most of my years as a fan of the Metal I have always been able to appreciate the talents and contributions made to the genre by the guys in Dokken. Let’s face it, even though they were often unfairly dumped into the category of your average “Hair Metal” band, you have to agree that the guys clearly delivered the goods and brought a lot more to the table with their brand of Melodic Heavy Metal than most of their peers. That being said and understood makes looking over this particular Greatest Hits collection a little easier because from beginning to end there are just so many good songs to raise the horns about. The band released a “Very Best of Dokken” back in 1999 and every track from that release is presented here with the exception of the Don Dokken solo track of “Mirror, Mirror”. If you as a buyer of this CD can live without that particular tune, you can easily swap that collection for this one and make the older version a present to some young Metal head in training. This collection is a double CD affair and features thirty of the bands most essential numbers and makes the “Definitive” labeling rather appropriate.
