So worn out am I by the seemingly endless deluge of shrieked/growled vocals that I can’t even joke that this album’s title echoes my sentiments about it. The band is tight and heavy, but once again I just can’t get past how it’s lyrically presented. Someone likes this stuff, but that someone sure ain’t me. There’s really not much to say about this one, since it’s a fairly standard entry in the glutted death metal genre, but it’s worth a listen for those in the know as it features “Lilith,” a song that sounds like an outtake from the Sword’s “Age Of Winters” (2006) and the album’s title track that’s nothing more than a bald-faced ripoff of Gwar’s 1990 classic “Salaminizer.” I defy you to play “Lift The Curse” and not be able to sing the Gwar lyrics in almost exact sync to the music since the two songs sound almost exactly the same. Artist: A Day To Remember Title: “For Those Who Have Heart” Label: Victory Records Release Date: January 23, 2007 Genre: Punk Rating: 2/5
This spirited pop/punk/metal gene-splicing is rather interesting in that it takes what would otherwise be your standard wimp-rock tunes and puts extra voltage up their collective ass via wailing guitars, and alternating its vocals between fey Oasis-style whining and more-comprehensible-than-usual Cookie Monster vox. It’s perhaps a bit too poppy for the core metal fan and could definitely use a heavier edge, but it’s okay stuff for those not quite ready for the dark depths of early Sabbath or their contemporary descendents the Sword.
