Artist: Operatika Title: “Dreamworld” Label: unsigned Release Date: 2005 Genre: Operatic Power Metal Rating: 8/10
New Jersey based Operatika has finally completed work on their demo CD entitled “Dreamworld”. The 4 track piece is actually only 3 full songs, but you can definitely get the feel for the type of music Operatika brings to the table. Fronting the group is Slava Popova who is blessed not only by her beauty but her incredible voice as well. There were a couple of factors that I enjoyed about this demo right off the bat. The first would be the amount of production that they placed in it as it seems as though many bands are making sure that their work is represented as best as possible before presenting it to a record label or fan base. As one listens to this piece, you think yourself finding a sampler of a major release. Continue reading “Dreamworld” by Operatika→
Coming to you straight out of Italy is a kick-ass band called Chaoswave. This group delivers some solid metal to you in the styles of Nevermore and Lacuna Coil. There is a high amount of technical expertise showcased on the production and they made sure that this demo sounds as good as a label release would. While I use Lacuna Coil in reference, the similarity ends with the fact that there are two people singing lead, and one is male while the other female. Giorgia Fadda and Fabio Carta use their styles vocally to stray from the Gothic and lean more towards that of power metal. Continue reading “Chaoswave” by Chaoswave→
Artist: Haunted By Angels Title: “Season Of Death” Label: unsigned Release Date: unknown Genre: Heavy Metal Rating: 7/10
Monroe New York residents Haunted By Angels have proven that the metal scene is not just necessarily city based. Their self-titled CD “Season Of Death” is a great example of these NY Rockers. Led by Singer Jane Evil, they showcase a very Maiden/Priest influenced metal. The group is made up of DJ Breyerton (Bass), Dave Derrig (drums), Art McDermott (guitar), and Andy Wheeler (guitar).
The production is good on the piece, but not always excellent as I felt at times the vocals or guitar overdid the drums or bass too much. I also felt for the quality of drum time that is being kept by Dave that they could have given him a cleaner sound. It makes it sound too demo like for a recording of professional quality. This is not the bands fault. It is my hope that on a potential signing that they will revisit these tunes and get them to have the delivery that was intended. Artist: Of Infinity Title: “Essence Of Infinity” – Demo Label: Demo – unsigned Release Date: 9/2004 Genre: Melodic Power Rating: 8/10
San Antonio Texas’ own “Of Infinity” has just released their 3 track CD Demo entitled “The Essence Of Infinity”. This is a moody and heavy piece. The almost Angelic voice of Alessandra Zinicola cutting through the well orchestrated melodies. She really does have a great voice, and it is very powerful. One can see how her influences in such bands as Nightwish show in her delivery. Nazareth Sando on guitar plays to a frenzy over the drumming (which on this release was programmed). Kurtis Kyllo holds the whole piece together on the bass. Continue reading “Essence Of Infinity” by Of Infinity→
