Once again it was CMJ Week in New York (that’s the College Music Journal for those unaware), and it is a week long series of panels and informative gatherings that feature some of the industries top names. In addition to the panels there are great bands allover the City with many venues holding industry showcases to offer you the listener their finest wares. It’s the week where production, management, publicist and performer all mix together as one giant entity and take over in the name of music. Another aspect of CMJ week is the parties and believe me there are a bunch of them. I did not hit any of the panels for there is really no call for me to do so and instead I try to hit some of the showcases and let you know what the scoop is. One of the cool events I was able to attend was The Escapi Music showcase and readers of the site are well aware of the kind of music that they deliver. The label is home to Black Metal stalwarts such as Dragonlord and Hank Shermann’s Force Of Evil who have killer releases on the shelves and they are also the place where you can find remasters of Warrior Soul and Trouble classics.

Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 8/10
Tokyo Dragons? No, they aren’t from Japan, they are a British quartet bringing us a very rocking debut album entitled “Give Me The Fear”. What a great debut from a band that is sure to attract a crowd and grab your attention. Steve Lomax (vocals, guitar), Mal Bruk (guitar, vocals), Mathias Stady (bass), and Phil Martini (drums, vocals) deliver the fear, the fear that is rock n’ roll. This album has hints of AC/DC, Def Leppard and Sex Pistols all mixed in to this larger than life arena rock sound.

Opener: Dirty Rig, Mahavatar, Wet Animal
Date: 11/15/2005
Label: Escapi Music
Escapi Music has really been releasing a lot of great music over the past year and those who are watching them will find everything from Heavy Metal (in all its Black, Power and Traditional forms) as well as some gritty Rock & Rollers and Gothic themed outfits. The diversity and difference in many of these artists will totally appeal to the discerning music fan and I myself have found some stand out artists represented. Tonight at a small but popular club – “The Continental” in NYC, Escapi Music would be bringing you the live performances of a handful of their most recent Artists. Tokyo Dragons and Wet Animal would be the main attractions for the night and with each band performing a little over 60 minutes you were able to get more than a great idea as to what would be in store for you on their respective albums. Kicking off the fun would be Mahavatar (a new signing who are set to record) and Dirty Rig (an act whose deal is in the works as you read this). Here is a little bit of information on what went down that night.
