The Mighty Metal Mike Chlasciak and his bringers of the mayhem “Painmuseum” have returned with an EP of material to whet the palette for Metal just a little more. The EP is a nice treat for fans of the shredder who are waiting for another full-length album from the band but yet I was a bit surprised that there was only one new tune included on this disk. “Scars In Black” is a thriller of a Metal track with a pounding display by drummer Bobby Jarzombek along with the six string insanity that is Metal Mike at his best. Given the CD includes three previously released tracks from “Metal For Life”, this CD might have only a small amount of appeal to existing fans of the band and quite personally I think Mike should have waited a little before releasing this on the world. He does give you the “Speak The Name” video and a bunch of bonus features but those implements would be best suited for a DVD release than on a CD. The band is also comprised of Tim Clayborne (Hatred) and Steve DiGiorgio (Sadus, Testament) and considering the busy touring and recording schedule it is most probably the reasoning behind limited material from this excellent Pure Metal outfit. Jarzombek and Mike now are part of Sebastian Bach’s band and have worked extensively with Rob Halford and at last mention would be working on the Metal God’s third album.

Title: “Metal For Life”
Label: Demolition Records
Release Date: 4/26/2005
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 8/10
What can possibly be said about the PainmuseuM for those that have not heard it yet? For starters if you dare to play this CD you should be prepared to be brutalized by the molten metal that is being delivered by these guys. The lineup is “Metal” Mike Chlasciak who is most noted for his excellent work with Rob Halford as both a touring and recording guitarist. Mike is a force of nature on Heavy Metal guitar and a Legend among his fellow shredders. He has brought with him on drums Bobby Jarzombek who not only was the driving force behind the Halford lineup with Mike but most recently has taken the drum throne in Iced Earth and Demons & Wizards. The bass guitar was performed by Steve DiGiorgio (Testament/Death) and vocalist Tim Clairbone rounds out the group. Tim’s screeching wails and guttural growls are comparable to the likes of Bobby Blitz. Tim also defines the look of Metal with his vintage 80’s styled spikes and gauntlets; most likely his look was honed for Hatred. Adding all these forces together and there is some seriously powerful Metal going on. Mike’s playing has never been better as since this is his own project he has a little more freedom on what is getting done. Jarzombek is in my top list of drummers and does some excellent work on the recording. He and Mike are in total groove together and it shows on every track.
