After a whirlwind year that saw them releasing their explosive MAYDAY EP and a new cover of Metallica’s classic “Enter Sandman” with singer-songwriter Alessia Cara, Monterrey Mexico hard rock sister trio The Warning have announced their debut U.S. headline tour for 2022. With its Los Angeles shows at the Troubadour already sold out, the MAYDAY Tour kicks off in San Diego on January 18, with the ticket pre-sale launching on December 7, locally on December 9, and to the general public December 10 at https://www.thewarningband.com/tour. The Warning, which features sisters Daniela “Dany” [guitar, lead vocals, piano], Paulina “Pau” [drums, vocals, piano], and Alejandra “Ale” Villarreal [bass, piano, backing vocals], is a hard-hitting power trio that has built a global fan following with their infectious sound and unflinching lyrics.

In October, the band released their MAYDAY EP via LAVA/Republic Records that included standout singles “CHOKE,” “EVOLVE”, “DISCIPLE”, and “MARTIRIO.” Produced by the legendary David Bendeth (Paramore, Bring Me The Horizon, Breaking Benjamin), the project is an electrifying musical rollercoaster that offers an unapologetic look at issues faced by the younger generation today — from ever-present technology, communication problems caused by generation gaps, love, anxiety, and the overwhelming pressure to suppress emotions.

My interest in Queensryche goes a pretty long way back and I can say to the readers that the first time I ever caught them in concert was when they were opening up for KISS on the bands “Animalize” tour. They were supporting their soon to be released masterpiece “Warning” and believe it or not, I couldn’t have cared less that night. This was based on the KISS mania setting in and my not being open to this obviously rising star in the Metal world. I was not alone in this view and that was just how a KISS show worked. You often were bored at any opening band while you waited for the Kings Of The Nighttime World to come out and dominate the stage. Moving ahead a couple of years in time, the chance to see Queensryche again happened when Iron Maiden was on their legendary “Powerslave” tour and for me this was a match made in heaven. I say it like this because the band was winning me over note after note and had the many thousands of fans in Radio City Music Hall pushing their fists into the air as singer Geoff Tate told us to “Take Hold Of The Flame” with a soaring and commanding register. I’ve been a fan ever since that time and have followed them as a band in both my personal life and as that of a music journalist. They pushed the envelope a number of times in their releases and we have reviewed many of their recordings and video films on the site as well as supported their touring efforts. The first full-length album by Queensryche took the Heavy Metal and Hard Rock world by surprise and with their support of both KISS and Iron Maiden (who were pushing “Animalize” and “Powerslave”) the band was instantly able to put themselves in front of a great potential fan base. The material on the new release “The Warning” and the bands incredible sound allowed them to stand as tall as these heavy hitters and along with music from the self-titled EP performed to an outstanding reaction. The touring for this release pretty much opened the door for Queensryche because back then the only folks who would have had the EP were those who often scoured the back pages of Rock magazines of the time and dug through record bins digging for gold. Queensryche was smart in the decision to not place any songs from their EP on the debut release which almost guaranteed that it would be purchased if you found yourself impressed by them. Most listeners to the growing Metal genre would find this to be the case and discover a band deeply rooted in the teachings of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest yet moving in a more technically progressive nature like that of Rush. With Queensryche you would get a little of everything and overall a very impressive band would be the result of these influences. The vocal power of Geoff Tate would blow you away with his breaking glass register. Musically they were incredible as well with twin axe-man ship of DeGarmo and Wilton taking what other bands had introduced for lead players and raising the bar to the next level. Scott Rockenfield was also a terrific drummer who worked his magic on the kit while bassist Eddie Jackson held it all together with ease. A great debut, with a lot of incredible songs that still hold relevance and awe on their fans to this day. Favorites of mine include not only the hit of “Take Hold Of The Flame” but also “Before The Storm” and “Child Of Fire”.
