New Year’s Music Resolutions For 2013: Part 9

new year's music resolutions

They say that the cat has nine lives and such would be the same for this blog series even though I have a couple of more chapters to present to you fine readers. We’ve gotten some great stuff from the musicians and creative entities who were kind enough to participate in the series. So without any further adieu “Welcome to Chapter 9 of our New Year’s Music Resolutions for 2013”.

1. Ronny Munroe (Metal Church): My New Year’s Resolution: To continue to grow musically and mentally, and to put out the best music of my career, wether it be with Metal Church or my own music. That’s it 🙂

2. The Last Vegas: The Last Vegas’ New Year’s Resolution for 2013 is to go organic. Not in a dietary sense mind you, but artistically going back to the raw, the real, the look into your soul to see what is in there and what you can pull out that truly sticks to your and your listeners’ bones. In today’s modern musical climate, the competition for listeners’ attention is fierce, fast and fleeting. Plug in straight, bypass the bullsh*t meter, and get the direct-connect. Any yahoo can have great hair…

3. J.R. Gurrieri (Slam One Down): To Get on the biggest tour that we can and support some great Heavy Metal Bands and to write and record a better record than the one we just put out.

It really was an amazing weekend for music if you lived in NYC and here is how it was playing out. It was now Sunday, the day of “rest” and Mother’s Day to boot, but there is no such a thing as slowing down the pace when you are wandering the Rock and Roll life seeking to jot down notes about all of the amazing happenings for the Metal Republic. For many fans this was actually event number three of a three night straight concert extravaganza that was happening in this part of the city. Friday night was Finland’s HIM who performed with We Are The Fallen and Dommin; while Saturday was the legendary Accept and looking back on them I could not believe just how good each of those shows were. Of course, tonight was guaranteed to be a special occasion as well for it was the long overdue return of Hanoi Rock’s Michael Monroe. The legendary and influential Glam Rock singer had not toured around these parts in almost a dozen years according to what I had learned and this gig at the Highline Ballroom was going to pull out all the stops from beginning to end. Monroe would bring along The Last Vegas and The Dirty Pearls as his openers and since each of the bands were of interest to me I got inside nice and early to bring you the best possible information on it.

PiercingMetal’s “Best Of” 2009: The Music Part 2

Hello again, and welcome back to the continuing “Best Of” 2009 lists. This is chapter two of my favorite albums for the year since I had so many. Don’t worry, I loved a lot of concerts, books and videos but those will have to get their own chapter as well. With this installment I have also featured those releases which were older albums that found a re-issue. I’ve never minded reviewing back catalog here on the website and as we head towards out fifth year in 2010 can only see that process continuing. Okay let’s take a look at the picks.

The Best Albums Of 2009 Continued:

Immortal “All Shall Fall” (Nuclear Blast Records): The Dark Gods of the frozen wastelands are back and shall take no prisoners. Welcome back gentleman, we’ve been waiting for this one for awhile.

Nile “Those Whom The Gods Detest” (Nuclear Blast Records): This angry little title only briefs you on the massive sound delivered by Nile on their latest. Could this be the bands magnum opus, one might think so after hearing it a couple of times. That’s good for the genre all around.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra “Night Castle” (Lava Records): It’s finally here and offers fans of the Symphonic Hard Rock orchestra a lot of cool treats. There are some covers and remakes on this one for the old Savatage crowd and a lot of new instrumentals and lyrical pieces that both amaze and inspire. Nice work.

The Smithereens “Tommy” (E1 Entertainment): Classic rockers re-do most of the amazing Rock Opera by The Who. Their renditions were solid and worthy of praise. Cool.

The Gathering “The West Pole” (Season Of Mist Records): Another band with some history and yet another new lead singer. Did it work out, well, yes it did indeed.

Chimaira “The Infection” (Ferret Music): Brutal, powerful and very, very heavy. This bands name breathes Metal and the music on this release is the proof in the pudding.

Them Crooked Vultures “Them Crooked Vultures” (Interscope Records): Another super group but this one features John Paul Jones…….JOHN PAUL JONES!!!!! Awesome stuffs.

Shadow’s Fall “Retribution” (Shadows Fall Records): Solid effort from these original leaders in the Nu-Metal field.

The Last Vegas “Whatever Gets You Off” (Eleven Seven Music): Really enjoyed the Trash/Sleaze Rock of these winners of the Guitar Player contest. I sense good and big things a coming for these boys.

White Wizzard “High Speed GTO” (Earache Records): Kicking it Old School never sounded so good.

Motley Crue @ Madison Square Garden (3/16/2009)

Logo - Motley Crue

Artist: Motley Crue
Venue: Madison Square Garden (New York, NY)
Opener: The Last Vegas, Theory Of A Deadman, Hinder
Date: 3/16/2009
Label: 10th Street Entertainment

A last minute call from a member of the Metal Community granted me an available ticket to the evenings Motley Crue show at Madison Square Garden and it was an admittedly nice surprise after what had amounted to be a rather trying day. These insane economic times and the tribulations we are all facing seem to matter very little when you convene with your friends and peers at a Metal show so I happily took advantage of the offer to join in on the fun. The fact that the band was performing in the legendary MSG was also a part of the night’s appeal because I had personally seen so many memorable shows at this arena and could not resist the possibility of adding one more to the already long and legendary list. The night’s roster was a full one with three openers to enjoy before The Crue would hit the stage and it all began with The Last Vegas, would continue on with a set from Theory Of A Deadman and then Hinder who were actually considered the “co-headliner”. Here is how the night went down should you be one of those who missed it.
