There’s A “Heartache Tonight”; The Eagles Glenn Frey Passes Away (11/6/48-1/18/16)

I’m really getting tired of these announcements already as January has taken another great musician off to the skies as legendary co-founder of The Eagles, Glenn Frey has died at age 67.

Frey met his longtime music partner Don Henley in 1970 when the two were among a number of musicians hired to be Linda Ronstadt’s backup band. Also in the band were Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon and after this 1971 tour the foursome would stick together and form The Eagles and go on to be one of the biggest selling American groups in music history. Having grown up on the “Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) album that my Mom had it was easy to see why this was the case as the songwriting and melody in these tracks simply said “success”. No matter what your musical preference today might be, The Eagles are likely a band that you can listen to and find yourself smiling while doing so. Frey was a great solo artist as well and had driving hits like “The Heat Is On” from “Beverly Hills Cop” along with “You Belong To The City” from the mega-hit TV series “Miami Vice” where Frey even played a character during their first season. There is so much to know about this fine musician but that can be left to your own discovery on his official Wiki entry which I have linked below. Earlier today they announced that it was a combination of rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis, and pneumonia while recovering from intestinal surgery that would take him from us. Thank you Glenn for all the incredible musical memories that you have left us with. Yesterday I mused how the great David Bowie must have needed a guitar player for his next project which was the easiest way for me to process just how bad 2016 has been to the music side with all these deaths. We wish the deepest of condolences to his family, friends and worldwide fans. May he Rest In Peace.
