Get Your Geek On: Today Is “Free Comic Book Day” and “Star Wars Day”

special event logos, may the 4th be with you

Today has to be one of those not often happening on the same day occurrences as its not only “Star Wars Day” because of the whole phrase of “May The 4th Be With You”, but its also “Free Comic Book Day” and each of them are worlds of awesome. Your local listings will show you that all sorts of “Star Wars” films and specials will be airing and if you have Disney+ you can just leave a section of the service playing. As I will be rather busy today I will likely watch a couple of the original trilogy films after I get back from adventures. You can translate this into my letting all three of the films run through.

Now as far as “Free Comic Book Day” is concerned, my plans for the day are to hit a couple of the famed New York City comic book shops like Forbidden Planet and Midtown Comics to see what they have going on. By now the readership should know what this particular day is and how it works but if you are new, here is the scoop. Free Comic Book Day is done at participating retailers and on this day they let you take a stack of comic books that have been designated as FCBD issues. Each store has their own policy on how many one can take so you might get 5 comics, or many more. Of course there are even stores that only give you a single comic book which is a bit disappointing but let’s remember that while this is free to the customer, it is NOT free to the participating retailer. This is why I always encourage that you purchase some other issues that are on the racks or some comic book collecting supplies like the bags or backing boards. There are also numerous sales at these shops in honor of FCBD so peruse the collected editions or action figures. You know that you need something. We always do.

Each of the hyperlinks below will lead you to some events and plans that you can entertain today on this super duper Geektastic day. My hope is to find some folks cosplaying something as I explore because you never know. Before I wrap up you can tell me what you will be doing today and know that whatever it is, I hope you have a great time. Ciao for now.

Hey there my friends, I just wanted to start the day early with a rousing “Happy Star Wars Day” to you all or to use its much better sounding phrase “May The 4th Be With You!!!”; I have to tell you that I still think that the phrase is a stroke of Geek Genius. Now it’s without question that the “Star Wars” franchise is one of the most popular in all Pop Culture history and I’ve certainly had my hands full as a media in terms of sharing news about films, television shows, comic books and toys and collectibles. If you don’t believe me, just peruse our own “Pop Culture” category since its all there. Over the last few days we’ve learned of some awesome happenings and I’ll link you to them in the highlighted text. There is a special Virtual Event by the ReedPOP folks, an all-day streaming of the nine films in the “Skywalker Saga” on Disney+ and a brand-new Marvel Comics digital edition for a hot character known as Doctor Aphra.

Happy Star Wars Day 2014 To The Metal Masses!!!

While I realize that I put most of this on my PiercingKen.com site, I am so interested in the subject matter that our wonderful Metal Legions get a posting here as well so with that said – “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away….” – Those were the words that audiences across the land first experienced when the film “Star Wars” first opened in 1977 and today is the day that fans celebrate it.
