The Details: As I’ve been listening to Heavy Metal music for decades now, I can proudly admit to you all that I have been enjoying the musical output of the mighty Helloween since they first began in 1984. Listening to them do their thing as a young fan of Metal and a learning his craft musician, I often found myself blown away by the speed and drive in their melodies. Over the years the band has gone through some lineup changes but they are still a force to be reckoned with and that makes me excited to be able to put a few PiercingMetal readers into the show for free thanks to the fine folks at Stage 48. This venue is fast becoming a Metal staple and has recently hosted the likes of Kamelot, Y&T and King’s X so you know you want to check it out if you love shows as much as I do. The Details: What a long, strange trip it’s been for the mighty Kamelot over the last couple of years but if you have been paying proper attention, the band has been laying their brand of sonic assault on the Metal masses with a powerful new album in “Silverthorn” and their new vocalist Tommy Karevik has been winning over the assembled masses night after night. The tour will also feature Delain from the Netherlands and Eklipse so you know it’s going to be a fantastic night of music for all in attendance. The Details: King’s X is one of the best sounding bands that I have ever had the pleasure of seeing in concert or listening to on recordings over the last couple of decades that I have followed them. Those of you who have similar experiences are likely nodding your heads along to the statement and yet despite this there are far too many people that have not a single idea about what this band holds in their musical grasp. The Scoop: Uli Jon Roth is one of the best guitarists alive. That is pretty much all I have to say about that. He first came to people’s attention by being a member of the Scorpions from 1973 to 1978 and during his tenure released four albums with them. He was one of the first to offer up the Neo-Classical style of guitar wizardry and he created the Sky Guitar which is an instrument unlike any I have seen or heard before and his overall style has influenced more guitar players than I can easily name. I’m always excited when Uli comes to NYC to play for us and even more so this time because he is doing so at a brand new NYC venue.
