The Press Release:
In response to overwhelming demand, Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase (BICS) will be expanding to two days for its upcoming fourth year. The event will take place on April 26 and 27, 2025, and span two indoor floors and an outdoor courtyard within Industry City.

“Due to BICS’ dramatic growth and community response, we’re happy to announce that it will become a two-day event next year,” said Aynsley Leonardis, BICS Event Director.

Started in 2022, BICS was established by St. Mark’s Comics® as a space for local, independent artists to showcase their talents and wares. The legendary comic book and collectibles shop has long been an advocate for supporting the comics industry and the neighborhoods in which it resides. After 36 years in Manhattan’s East Village, St. Mark’s Comics opened its doors in Brooklyn three years ago. With the new location came a renewed passion to provide a platform for local artists.

The Brooklyn Independent Comics Showcase took over the courtyard in Industry City yesterday and in the interest of time and my own typing, it will be referred to as BICS for the rest of this summary. So according to my research, BICS was an idea from the mind of Mitch Cutler who has run the famed St. Mark’s Comics for over thirty years. Though no longer a shop on St. Mark’s Place, the legendary comic book store is now inside Industry City. This event made its debut in 2022 and brings together a wealth of independent creators in one convenient location. It would be located in one of the courtyards available in this shopping and event space and I was excited to explore and learn more about it. Traditionally speaking, I’m not really the biggest Independent Comics fan but I did go to the MoCCA Art Fest last month and got a little better idea about it all. Let’s begin exploring shall we? Narration will come and go in this photo presentation.

Now before I get too deep into this I should point out that I was not attending this event as a member of the approved media. Since this is a free event I didn’t bother looking into any kind of press badge and I didn’t notice any additional happenings going on other that artists tabling. So as you’ve seen above, my first contact was artist Chuck Kaslow and I enjoyed chatting with him quite a bit.

PiercingMetal Goes to Big Apple Comic Con (2011): Chapter Three

So here we are at the closing segment of the adventures at the Big Apple Comic Con which was as you know sponsored by the fine folks at Wizardworld. Thanks for coming back to us as we are only out to amuse and entertain you with our media findings when it all comes down to it. Chapter Three is pretty much focused on the Cosplayers that I chanced upon during my visit and who doesn’t want to be celebrated for their hard work at the end of the day. Travel on dear reader.
