The Press Release:
KNOTFEST Iowa is upon us. Today the globally renowned event has revealed its 2024 lineup including the hometown return of Slipknot, the festival’s headliner and founders. With a unique set drawing heavily from their 1999 debut, Slipknot will celebrate 25 years of the self-titled album along with their fans, in the band’s birthplace of Iowa.

Slipknot are bigger than ever. Those who witnessed those early days could justifiably have thought the band would never last this long – most artists that debut with such a burning intensity and a complete disregard for the existing paradigm, cannot last. But Slipknot’s unapologetic ferocity spoke to an entire generation, and quicker than anyone outside the band expected, they were also speaking FOR that generation. Now generations in, Slipknot’s message, songs and art resonate even more powerfully. This is where it all began.

Presenting The 2024 Grammy Nominations for Rock and Metal

grammy awards logo

It was just a short time ago that the Recording Academy had announced the nominations for the 2024 Grammy Awards and as is the usual practice here at the Metal Media High Command HQ, I’ve culled that almost 100 category list to serve up the nominations for the Rock and Metal releases. I’ve even kept to the inclusion of the Alternative stuff as well since sometimes that gets really close to the kind of stuff we are listening to as fans. There were some interesting nominations this time around.

Best Rock Performance – For new vocal or instrumental solo, duo/group or collaborative rock recordings.

Sculptures Of Anything Goes – Arctic Monkeys
More Than A Love Song – Black Pumas
Not Strong Enough – Boygenius
Rescued – Foo Fighters
Lux Æterna – Metallica

Slipknot Parts Ways With Drummer Jay Weinberg

The Statement:
“We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years. No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds”.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Now this is a surprise to me because I cannot imagine what creative decision would find them wanting Jay out. I was a real latecomer to the music of Slipknot but once I began following and even covering them, realized what a powerful bit of chaos they were. I never saw Joey in action but did see Jay and he was fantastic. At the time of this quite shocking news, there has been no statement from Jay Weinberg or even the record label but as more information is released about this I will surely share it since Slipknot is one of the biggest Heavy Metal bands in the world.

Update: Not long after the aforementioned news got circulated on this and all of the other websites that stopped in their tracks to get something online, Slipknot removed the posts from Facebook and their other social media profiles. Pretty strange but according to research they’ve done that before. Stay tuned for any updates that we see.
