The Press Release:
WITHIN TEMPTATION- the leaders of dark anthems, with a career spanning two decades – have signed a worldwide deal with Universal Music Germany. The band is partnering with Spinefarm Records for North America and the UK.
This joining of forces comes ahead of the new album Resist, scheduled for release on December 14.
Resist marks a departure from the Within Temptation’s past. The record is armed with 10 anthemic tracks, driven by grand melodies and dark hooks. It brings a futuristic take on metal to the table – both instrumentally and thematically.
“Resist is a true milestone for us. If it wasn’t for Resist, Within Temptation wouldn’t be here anymore,” the band stated.
“With this record, we’ve taken inspiration from modern music and gave it a face – a very dark one,” said singer Sharon den Adel. “Sometimes, it feels that today’s pop music lacks a rebellious edge. Our main goal was to collect pieces from sounds we did like and roughen it up as much as we could, resulting in a surprisingly new musical world that is heavier, dirtier and more futuristic than we’ve ever created before. Resist is our take on metal in a new way: to give modern music its rebellious edge.” Continue reading Spinefarm Records Signs Within Temptation→
While the US readers are preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday, the mighty melodic powerhouse that is Within Temptation has revealed a string of European dates for 2018. I’ve copied the bands official Facebook/Website statement for you to digest below. Dig in.
The Official Statement:
We’re very excited to announce that we will be touring in 2018! The tour will take us to 33 cities in 18 countries, including a few where we haven’t been in a while! Tickets are on sale now via the link at the close of this narrative.
This run of dates ends the longest break we have ever taken from touring. Sharon den Adel explains, “When our last tour finished, I was having a rough time. I realized I needed take some time out with my family to deal with things and to rediscover myself. It took much longer than expected, but 2 years on, things have changed for the better. I created my solo album (“My Indigo”) which helped me deal with my issues. And afterwards I suddenly found myself with an aching hunger again for more heavy, epic music. Then the music started to come by itself. I knew for sure that our seventh album was coming after all. So here we are… presenting our seventh tour and luckily it’s not going to take so long anymore because we are all more than impatient to get out there again!” Continue reading Within Temptation Announce European Dates For 2018→
Artist: Within Temptation Title: “Acoustic Night” Label: Roadrunner Records Release Date: 11/24/2009 Genre: Gothic Rock Rating: 4/5
I’ve happily been a fan of Within Temptation since I first saw their video for “Mother Earth” on an internet music service once run by Yahoo.com and I have kept following them ever since that time. With this being the case I felt that I was able to offer some solid insight into the band’s releases a little better than a more casual observer. If you are just joining us about this wonderful band then I suggest hitting their Wikipedia page to get some more background for I’ve not the time to recant history in this album review, but once you’ve done that by all means please pick up where you left off. As many know, the band plays a thunderous brand of Symphonic Gothic Metal and is fronted by the soaring vocal powers of Sharon den Adel and with albums like “Mother Earth” and “Shining Force” has made tens of thousands of fans around the world who follow them with incredible levels of passion and loyalty. This is easy to find being the case when you realize just how good so many of their tunes are. The latest album is entitled “An Acoustic Night At The Theatre” and this finds the band joining the ranks of the countless groups who have already slowed things down a little bit in terms of tempo in order to deliver a set of their greatest tunes in the acoustic sense. Admittedly this works better for some bands than it does for others and I am happy to report that Within Temptation is able to do this with apparent ease. Let’s look deeper into the album shall we? Artist: Within Temptation Title: “Black Symphony” Label: Roadrunner Records Release Date: 9/23/2008 Genre: Symphonic Gothic Metal Rating: 5/5
Within Temptation are one of the true sensations in the world of Gothic Metal or Symphonic Metal depending on how you choose to view them and while incredibly popular in the European territories, the US region was never able to easily enjoy them without purchasing super expensive imports. Roadrunner Records’ signing of the band and subsequent release of “The Heart Of Everything” found their new music reaching hungry existing fans along with an army of new ones and by remastering and reissuing two of their classics would serve the drastic need for back catalog. This brings us up to the “Black Symphony” concert which is a fantastic CD/DVD release that captures the band performing for a sold out arena crowd with a 60 piece classical orchestra joining them as they deliver the best tunes from their latest and previous releases. The version which we had for review was the single CD and DVD edition so we decided to focus the nature of our commentary on the video portion and will touch upon the audio side after that. Let’s continue.
I can safely say that I am a big fan of the live music scene and based on this attend a numerous amount of concerts. That makes my sitting down to enjoy them in the privacy of my own home something tricky because it’s not always the same thing. As far as concert films go this one kept me glued to the couch like few others have ever done before because it was not only dramatic in its delivery but it was also very intense in how it presented the wonderful colors that the band paints with their material. Visually the production was stunning and awe inspiring based on just how massive it appeared to be on the screen. In the live sense this must have been a sensory overload to the audience that was lucky enough to be present for the show. The full orchestra is positioned behind the group who performs in front of them with the electric guitars, bass and drums while Sharon sings and often adds interesting dance moves and gestures to her vocal lines. It’s great that she is not just standing still and instead is getting into it as much as everyone else in the band. She also doesn’t seem to stop smiling for the entire show and I guess this is something that is totally possible when performing for such a loving home based crowd. For those who have enjoyed Within Temptations music in the past you already know how well it works with the symphonic elements but to see it done live in front of your eyes was just majestic. Clearly the Metropole Orchestra was the perfect choice for the musicians to raise the bar of many already excellent Within Temptation numbers. The orchestra while 60 musicians, is also comprised of a 20 voice choir that adds more depth to those tunes that required such things. Continue reading “Black Symphony” by Within Temptation→
