Arch Enemy Postpones North American “Will To Power” Tour

It wasn’t long ago back in May where we shared the news about the upcoming Arch Enemy “Will To Power” North American Tour and as August warms itself up for a solid month of Metal awareness with a cup of coffee we must share that this entire run of dates has been postponed due to “circumstances”. Check out the bands statement below and the dates you’ll need to get a refund for.

The Press Release:
“We very much regret to inform you that we will be postponing our return to North America until 2019. We were looking forward to seeing everyone again this Fall and to share our stage with Goatwhore and Uncured, but we have been forced to cancel this run due to reasons beyond our control. It’s very unfortunate timing, but we cannot wait to come back and rock US soil again next year and see all your faces! Thank you for understanding and as always for your support of Arch Enemy! Refunds are available at point of purchase.”

The Press Release:
Extreme metal giants Arch Enemy announce their U.S fall tour alongside fellow metal heavyweights GoatWhore and newcomers Uncured. The tour follows the release of Arch Enemy’s chart-topping tenth studio album, Will To Power, released in September 2017 via Century Media. The 22-city tour kicks off on September 28th in Providence, RI, hitting major markets along the way, before culminating at the iconic Starland Ballroom in New Jersey on October 27th. Tickets go on sale May 4th 10AM local time at the website at the close.

On the upcoming tour, Arch Enemy’s founding guitarist and chief songwriter Michael Amott says: “After our hugely successful co-headline US/Canada trek with Trivium last fall, we are very much looking forward to returning to North American soil! This time we’re hitting a slew of cities and markets we haven’t been to in a while and we can guarantee that it’s gonna be an insane Metal party!”

“War Eternal” (Single) by Arch Enemy

Artist: Arch Enemy
Title: “War Eternal” (Single)
Label: Century Media Records
Release Date: 4/29/2014
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Rating: 4/5

Back when the news was announced on St. Patrick’s Day that longtime singer Angela Gossow had stepped down from Arch Enemy and named her successor as being Alissa White-Gluz of The Agonist a lot of the rumblings from the fans could be heard. Some were good and some not too much and now that the single “War Eternal” from the bands album of the same name is available for purchase I figured I would toss some thoughts together about track and give you a purchase link. Here we go.

The tune starts off with a strong melodic riffing that finds you getting charged up and even getting a little bit of the head banging started before Alissa comes in with the first verse. There is a superb pattern of double bass being delivered by Erlandsson and as a former skin basher I just like how this “felt” to my Metal ears. Now those who have seen The Agonist or ever heard their music before already know that Alissa is a growler, but one who has the luxury of a soaring clean register to her vocal skills as well. For this tune she sticks with the growling and quickly appears to be in command of the tune as she rallies the forces of the band with her. I liked it and wondered if there would be at least a few “clean notes” to be found here but we don’t get them. The chorus sounded powerful to me and after playing it back a couple of times I felt that it might be a great live song and envisioned the Metal masses raising their fists and singing along with her. The guitar solo from Michael Amott worked well but I expected as much since he is the guiding composing force in the group and I am sure those shredders out there will not be disappointed. For me this works overall and I am excited about the possibilities for the band going forward and to hear the full on release in a little over a month. I plan on a deeper examination when my media download link hits the mailbox so stay tuned.

“Tyrants of the Rising Sun: Live in Japan” by Arch Enemy

Artist: Arch Enemy
Title: “Tyrants of the Rising Sun: Live in Japan”
Label: Century Media Records
Release Date: 11/24/2008
Genre: Melodic Death Metal
Rating: 4/5

While I am not sure of the rationale behind the release of another live Arch Enemy live DVD only two short years after their “Live Apocalypse” edition, I am hesitant to complain because when it comes down to it, Arch Enemy is one of those bands who continually seem to deliver the goods for the Metal legions. This time around we find the band performing in front of a “Ravenous” Japanese fan base and you must pardon the obvious pun using the bands own song. As most Metal heads know – the Japanese really take their music seriously when they believe in a band and we saw this very long ago with the likes of both KISS and Cheap Trick along with countless others. From this film we see that their love of the mighty Arch Enemy is caught very early for the observing eye and the crowd seems to absorb every tune with delight as the band delivers not only classic material from their back catalog but also offers up some of their new greatness from “Rise Of The Tyrant”. While I had questioned the relevance of another live DVD in the opening of this piece, when one considers that this is the first tour that found the returning Amott brother back in action then it is a no brainer to capture more attention for this great event. Arch Enemy fans or those who just follow the Metal might remember that the guitarist had left the group to pursue other interests and once he had finished with them decided to return. He was replaced for a time by Fredrik Akesson who did an incredible job and now with his return was no longer needed by the group. I wouldn’t worry too much about him because he is working in Opeth now and doing a stand up job over in that camp because he is very clearly an incredible player for the more Melodic styled Death Metal. Thank you for your contributions to Arch Enemy sir, you were a great addition to the lineup.
