Waking up to the music of the Stone Temple Pilots when your alarm is set to the local news station is never a good thing and sadly this mornings 1010 WINS broadcast was doing this to inform the masses that former lead singer of the band, Scott Weiland had been found dead on his tour bus last night. No cause of death was disclosed and I am not going to be one of those speculators to his sad passing but let’s face it the singer was continually struggling with demons and they just might have won out in this case. He was 48 years old. What a shame.
So according to pretty much every music website and blog on the planet right now, the rumors indeed seem true and apparently singer Scott Weiland has been fired by the other members of the Stone Temple Pilots. Clearly this news is going to generate more Internet “he said, she said” than the Dream Theater, Queensryche and Slayer camps combined.
Scott Weiland delivered a solo performance with his new band at the Highline Ballroom last night and it was so cool to be on point for this special, sold out long in advance appearance. PiercingMetal had the eagle eye of Skeleton Pete Parrella along and he offered up this awesome gallery of images. Enjoy.
Scott Weiland is the enigmatic front man of not only the Stone Temple Pilots but also was fronting the band Velvet Revolver for a couple of albums before returning to touring and recording with STP. I loved those first two STP releases and that makes it a very exciting thing to know that Scott will be doing a “Greatest Hits” show at the Highline Ballroom on Monday 11/26. Thanks to the fine folks who book this awesome venue, we are going to put a few PiercingMetal readers into show for free. Pretty cool eh?
