Slayer Adds One Final Date to its Summer Festival Itinerary

The Press Release:
Last week, Slayer – Tom Araya, Kerry King, Gary Holt, and Paul Bostaph – announced that they plan to return to the concert stage for the first time since they concluded their Final World Tour in November 2019, to headline two summer festivals, Riot Fest and Louder Than Life. Today, the band announces they’ve added one last U.S. 2024 festival date, headlining the Aftershock Festival on October 10 at Discovery Park in Sacramento, CA.

In a statement, the band said, “There’s been a lot of excited fans out there about our playing a couple of festival dates, so it’s great to be able to add this last one.”

The Original Misfits Reunion Decimates The Denver Riot Fest

And they said it would never happen but last night in Denver, Colorado at a calm little function they call the “Riot Fest” – a bit of music history took place. It was an event that pretty much everyone had given up hope on ever occurring but when the news was announced a few months ago a nervous countdown happened among the fans while thousands scrambled for tickets to see this one act only. I am speaking of none other than the mighty and macabre Misfits whose original members Glenn Danzig, Jerry Only and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein put the differences aside and offered up a reunion performance that will surely go down in history. They were joined by Acey Slade on second guitar and the inimitable Dave Lombardo (formerly of Slayer) on the drums and below the poster you will find a few of the audience recorded clips of the evenings happening.

I didn’t snag too many clips for you and instead will leave the rest up to your own discovery. I did however locate a few of my favorites and am sharing them below. As I watched them I was slavering at the idea of actually being at this event. At least with these we are all flies on the wall and that is better than nothing. Many thanks to those fans who recorded them without too much bopping around. Your dedication to fellow fans is commendable.

There are times when you are reading the morning email broadcasts and think to yourself that perhaps you need a stronger bit of coffee based on it being hard to believe what is being looked at on your screen. This was the exact head that I found myself in a short time ago as the news opened up in my site email announcing “THE ORIGINAL MISFITS REUNITE” – Clearly I didn’t get enough sleep, or was immersed in some sort of fluid Horror Punk dream but alas this news was true and Original Members – Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only along with long-time guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein were reuniting and set to perform together on stage for the first time since 1983. Check out the poster and the press copy then I’ll return with some additional thoughts.

The Original Misfits Headline Riot Fest in Denver and Chicago

And they said it would never happen. Never!!

However, this September, Original Singer/Songwriter Glenn Danzig, Original Bassist Jerry Only and long-time Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein – for the “First Time in Over 30-Years” – will be stepping onto stage together as “The Original MISFITS” to headline Riot Fest & Rodeo in Denver, CO (September 2-4, 2016) and Riot Fest & Carnival in Chicago, IL (September 16-18, 2016).

From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America, the MISFITS significance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the MISFITS achieved in their initial six-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music.
