“Into The Night” (Single) by HIM

Artist: HIM
Title: “Into The Night” (Single)
Label: Razor and Tie
Release Date: 3/8/2013
Genre: Gothic Rock
Rating:

We’re about a month away from the release of the eighth studio album by Finland’s HIM which is being released on Razor and Tie who they’ve returned to after a brief stint on The End Records. This is an exciting time for the bands fanbase since this is the first new music that we’ve gotten from them since the 2010 release “Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice”. Sure, they delivered a comprehensive collection with “XX: Two Decades Of Love Metal” but there was only one new song on that and now it is again time to look forward into the band’s future. The debut single from the forthcoming is called “Into The Night”, let’s discuss.

Twisted Sister @ Nokia Theatre Times Square (12/6/2009)

Logo - Twisted Sister

Artist: Twisted Sister
Venue: Nokia Theatre Times Square (New York, NY)
Opener: Jim Florentine & Don Jamieson
Date: 12/6/2009
Label: Razor & Tie Entertainment

A few months ago I had the great idea about covering three distinct appearances in the NYC region in a 24 hour time frame and based on the timing and logistics of each place that I had to visit for that adventure it had been entirely possible to do. Such was the plan for my weekend once again as Winds Of Plague, Ensiferum and the mighty Twisted Sister all were doing shows within a similar space in time. Sadly the WoP show would not be made based on some dramatic schedule changes but the night and wee hours of the morning found me at the Ensiferum show and on its completion while I slept the rest of the dead, the visions of not only candy canes and sugar plumbs were going through my head but also the rousing dreams that were focused on the holiday madness of the Twisted Sister annual Christmas show. Tonight the Bad Boys of Rock & Roll would return for the second year in a row to the Nokia Theatre in Times Square to stuff our stockings in a manner that only they can do properly and when its all been added up this was the fourth year for the now holiday tradition to take place. Interestingly enough the band would opt to NOT have an opening musical act for this show and instead rely on the talents of comedians Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson who both act as co-hosts for the Eddie Trunk VH1 Classic program “That Metal Show”. I was told that each of them would do a short set of material and then we would get a little Sister going on, but my previous nights adventuring kept me from partaking in anything that they offered up. I asked some folks about it and some loved it while others chose to hang around with friends elsewhere until it was closer to the Twisted set time and even though this was the case the biggest gripe I heard was about too much dead time between any entertainment. The doors had actually opened at 6pm and Sister would not hit the stage until 9pm and that is a bit much if you asked me.

All That Remains & Lacuna Coil @ Fillmore at Irving Plaza (9/23/2009)

Logo - All That Remains

Artist:   All That Remains
Venue:    The Fillmore NY (New York, NY)
Date:    9/23/2009
Opener:    Lacuna Coil, Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster, From Sword To Sunrise
Label:    Razor & Tie Entertainment

They called tonight’s event “The Hard Drive Live” tour and what an exciting show it would be as it paired the intensity of All That Remains as the headliner with direct support from none other than Lacuna Coil. Kicking off the evening would be a band called From Sword To Sunrise and then a dose of Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster to really work the fans up. I had not seen the two lead off bands but was well aware of how good Lacuna Coil and ATR were onstage so I was rather excited to see them working together for the sake of our entertainment.

From Sword to Sunrise: Starting off the night would be Spokane, Washington’s own FSTS and while the venue was not yet at full capacity, the crowd was steadily building in the room and people were applauding what they were doing up there. Musically I felt that while tight it was not loaded with any surprises or stuff that left me begging for more from them, but that sometimes is the case which is experienced when a totally new band presents themselves in front of them. Vocally, their singer Seth used a blend of clean and dark styles to some effect and I would give them the fact that for a first time ever in NYC that they probably made some fans for themselves. They have their own released CD available which is self titled and was apparently up for purchase at the shows for those who wanted to give them a deeper listen. Maybe sometime soon I will see them again which I would not mind and I had to say that this was probably a great gig for a band like this to be a part of. Now it was onto Maylene and the Sons of Disaster.

Semi Precious Weapons @ Highline Ballroom (1/31/2009)

Semi Precious Weapons were in the middle of what they called the “Hell on Heels” tour and it found them at the Highline Ballroom on a cold winter’s night with both Von Iva and Nico Vega as support. We checked out this interesting appearance and for those who wish to see more they can click the logo below to be brought to our item on the main PiercingMetal.com site. Before I had walked out the door for this show, my day had actually started off with a massive amount of emails and calls from friends who were all wondering if I was going to be hitting the area appearance of Metallica that night and doing my “Metal Guy” thing. Alas I was not and their notes actually didn’t bother me all that much because I was bravely adventuring out for something completely new to my senses as opposed to stuff I was fully aware of. The show would be at The Highline Ballroom and the super cold night made the confines of the club seem like a welcome and warm embrace. The gig was referred to as “The Hell On Heels” tour and found headliners Semi-Precious Weapons performing with both Von Iva and Nico Vega. It would be my first go round for all of the groups so I made sure to check this one out from the very beginning. Here is what you missed if you didn’t join in on the fun. Von Iva was up first.
