Starset Announces 2017 Headlining Tour In Support Of “Vessels” Album

The 2017 Tour Announcements seem to be picking up a steady pace as we head towards the winter holidays and that is fine by me since it lets me start my musical year of 2017 off in a proper fashion. This tour will find you welcoming visitors from a strange planet and interestingly enough their name begins with an “S” – Read on.

The Press Release:
Coinciding with the release of their sophomore album VESSELS, cinematic rock band STARSET will launch a U.S. headl Flint, Michigan, with a hometown record release show in Columbus, Ohio set for January 20. Direct support on the tour is Gemini Syndrome. Tickets go on sale starting Friday, December 9.

The four-week outing will take front man Dustin Bates and his helmeted-and-pressure-suited crew, bassist Ron DeChant, guitarist Brock Richards and drummer Adam Gilbert, across the country, stopping in such cities as Chicago, Denver, Spokane, Reno, Scottsdale, Dallas, Houston, Little Rock, Baltimore and Pittsburgh with a Los Angeles show at The Roxy confirmed for January 31. See below for full tour routing.

“We look forward to the freedom that headlining will bring – allowing us to further realize our sonic and visual objectives. This will be the most immersive series of ‘demonstrations’ to date,” says Bates.

VESSELS–set for release January 20, 2017 via Razor & Tie–is a data-stream rendered in sound where Bates becomes the deus-ex-machina in an age of information overload that is increasingly complex yet ultimately human. From atmospheric opener, “Back To The Earth” to the driving hooks of the album’s first single, “Monster” to the catchy, nearly progressive moments of “Frequency,” Bates has succeeded in escaping the gravity of formula radio rock. Instead, he has re-imagined his genre-defying vision as an arena where Hans Zimmer interfaces with Radiohead and Trent Reznor. VESSELS was produced by Rob Graves (Halestorm, Red) and mixed by Ben Grosse (Breaking Benjamin, Filter), who also helmed their 2014 Razor & Tie debut, Transmissions, a landmark album selling in excess of a quarter million combined albums, streams and downloads, and propelled by singles including the unforgettable “My Demons” (which spent an unprecedented 43 weeks scaling rock charts).

Artist: The Pretty Reckless
Venue: Terminal 5 (New York, NY)
Opener: Them Evils & Holy White Hounds
Date: 11/16/2016
Label: Razor and Tie

Though I hadn’t yet heard the full new album by The Pretty Reckless, I was loving the first single that I had been spinning with “Take Me Down”. I spoke about the rocking hit song HERE if you wanted to learn my thoughts and what excited me about tonight was that this would be the largest venue that I had seen TPR doing their thing in concert. I’ve often mentioned how Terminal 5 was not my favorite venue in the music scene of NYC and that remains true based on the distance and time it adds onto one’s schedule when bounding about the city but since tonight was a comfortable evening and not yet super cold, an early arrival made this alright by me. This time LOL.

Them Evils: I had made sure to be on point for a couple of reasons and the first was based on the aforementioned hike to the actual club but the second was a lot more important when it came down to it since it was to check out this lead off band. One of my reps was working with them and was interested in my take so why not enjoy the whole show from beginning to end. Sometimes it’s not possible to do that but I was glad that tonight offered that means. Them Evils is a three-piece Hard Rock band out of Orange County, CA and to my knowledge they are not yet signed. They really got the crowd started and I was happy to find the audience that was already on point was rocking out hard as they played a mixture of originals and some peppered in covers. I’ll have to assume that they played their whole self-titled EP for the masses tonight and the covers chosen were AC/DC’s “It’s a Long Way To The Top” and Motorhead’s “Ace Of Spades”. Hopefully they will be remembered after this tour for more than doing some solid renditions on classics as the band really deserves the nod. Add them to your up and coming list with thumbs up from me. Holy White Hounds was next.

“Monster” (Single) by Starset

Artist: Starset
Title: “Monster” (Single)
Label: Razor and Tie
Release Date: 11/4/2016
Genre: Alternative Rock
Rating: 4/5

Though I have heard the band’s name for a couple of years now, I was always either missing their set or not getting around to listening to the music that friends were suggesting that I check out and with their recent NY Comic Con related appearance I knew that it was time to SETI my scanners on what these Interstellar explorers were all about. Just the other day we got the links to listen to a preview single from their forthcoming album called “Monster” and here are my thoughts about the track.
