mr bungle logo

The previously announced reunion of Mr. Bungle (discussed HERE) and their subsequent adding of dates for these select shows (discussed HERE) were great announcements but the massive bit of curiosity was who would be opening for these shows. Now, those answers are revealed. Check it out down below.

The Press Release:
Eureka, Calif. – Mr. Bungle, who surprised fans last month when they unexpectedly announced several live performances, all of which sold out within moments of their on-sale, have announced the bands who will be joining them for the highly-anticipated performances. Hand-picked by the Mr. Bungle band members, the openers include Cattle Decapitation, Possessed, Hirax, the Melvins, Ho99o9, C*nts and Spotlights, reflecting a mix of artists that both influenced the Eureka-born outfit’s 1986 demo, The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny, as well as current bands that the musicians are both fans of and feel are carrying on the spirit of that era, both musically and in attitude.

Start The Pit, “Murder In The Front Row” Official Trailer Is Here

murder in the front row logo

Music biopics are things that are riding high at the moment if you can count the success of the recent “Bohemian Rhapsody” film and the unnerving revelations of “Lords Of Chaos” as a part of the puzzle but as far as documentaries about the music that stick with people for long afterward and become constant topics of conversation, the number is limited for sure. The documentary “Murder In The Front Row” takes its name from the part of the song by Bay Area Thrashers Exodus from the song “Bonded By Blood” and will bring the audience back to the days were on any night of the week a live music craving Metalhead would be able to see the likes of Metallica, Slayer, Exodus, Possessed and even New York’s Anthrax in small clubs as a new music scene was building. The trailer for the documentary was just recently revealed so let’s watch it right now. I recommend holding back on any circle pit activity and stage diving until you have completed for your own safety and for that of your preferred devices.

About The Film: “Murder In The Front Row: The San Francisco Bay Area Thrash Metal Story”. In the early 1980’s, a small group of dedicated Bay Area headbangers shunned the hard rock of MTV and Hollywood hairspray bands in favor of a more dangerous brand of metal that became known as thrash! From the tape trading network to the clubs to the record stores and fanzines, director Adam Dubin reveals how the scene nurtured the music and the music spawned a movement. “Murder In The Front Row” is told through powerful first person testimony and stunning animation and photography. The film is a social study of a group of young people defying the odds and building something essential for themselves. Featuring interviews with Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Exodus, Testament, Death Angel, Possessed and many more! Narrated by Brian Posehn. (c/o Official YouTube Channel).

The Press Release:
Venom formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Coming to prominence towards the end of the new wave of British heavy metal, Venom’s first two albums—’Welcome to Hell’ (1981) and ‘Black Metal’ (1982)—are considered a major influence on thrash metal and extreme metal in general. Venom’s second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of the extreme metal subgenre of black metal. The band classic line-up trio of Cronos, Mantas and Abaddon recorded two further studio albums ‘At War With Satan’ (1984) and ‘Possessed’ (1985) and live album ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’ (1986). Often cited by bands such as Metallica, Behemoth, Celtic Frost and Mayhem as major influences, they are one of the most revered bands of their generation. Venom are still fronted by original singer/bassist Cronos and headline festivals all over the globe and continue to release new music.

All of the albums are remastered from the original tapes with embossed covers, posters and inserts like their original first editions. They’re all now on colour configured vinyl too. The set also includes a 12“ book detailing the history of the band featuring new interviews with all three members, written by respected journalist Dom Lawson.

The 2018 “NYDM Music Festival” Is Nigh & In A New Location

nydm logo

Just the other day, a friend from the NYC Metal Scene that I’ve known for some years asked if I could share the news about the latest developments with the 2018 NYDM Music Festival. This massive annual event is organized by the heads of the NYDM individuals and for those who are wondering what the acronym means it stands for “New York Death Militia”. You’ve very likely seen patches like the one up above on jackets at Metal shows. Originally, this three day happening was set for a space in Tappan, NY but its since been moved to the Mid-Hudson Civic Center for its biggest two days and then to the more intimate Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck, NJ. Take a look at the massive poster that features some amazing Death Metal and NYHC bands.
