Iron Maiden Announces Studio Catalog Remasters: Phase 1

iron maiden logo

The Press Release:
BMG will continue their reissues series of the IRON MAIDEN catalog with The Studio Collection – Remastered, covering the band’s sixteen-strong studio albums across their career to date.

Following on from 2014/2017’s black vinyl releases and 2015’s Mastered for iTunes project, The Studio Collection – Remastered will be released on the Digipak CD format, with the track listing matching the original U.K. releases. The recordings are taken from the same remasters as the 2015 hi-res digital releases. The albums will be released chronologically in batches of four, across a nine-month period superseding the previously available studio catalog and all titles will also be made available on streaming platforms. As a bonus for collectors, one CD from each batch of releases will also be optionally available in a specially artworked box featuring a 1:24 scale figurine and exclusive patch. In the November 16th batch, this will be The Number Of The Beast.

Maiden founder member and bassist Steve Harris says, “We’ve wanted to revisit these for a long time and I was delighted with the remastering we did in 2015. I thought it was the best that our albums have ever sounded and it was only right that we made them available on CD now too.”

All four albums in this first batch are available for pre-order now from https://666.ironmaiden.com/music.

1st batch: November 16th:
Iron Maiden / Killers / The Number Of The Beast (option of standard or collectors boxset edition including TNOTB Eddie figurine and patch) / Piece Of Mind

PiercingMetal Thoughts: My sincere apologies for getting this information to you later than planned but these aren’t coming out for a few weeks yet and you’ll be able to order them with ease and no fear of their running out of the supply. I have had the entire catalog in my collection for as long as I can remember, and well, I mean the older stuff like these releases and I cannot wait to get my hands on the newly mastered set. Who knows, perhaps I will even review them for the website database because having Iron Maiden back catalog can’t be bad for Google searching. What do you think about this initiative? Will you be gifting your old Maiden CD’s to a worthy successor while you add these new ones to your collection? Fill me in down in the comments below. You know you wanna.

“The Beast Arises” [DVD] by Paul DiAnno

Artist: Paul DiAnno
Title: “The Beast Arises”
Label: Metal Mind Productions
Release Date: 11/18/2014
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 2/5

A few months ago I offered up some thoughts about the Paul DiAnno “The Beast Arises” live audio CD and it was an experience that I hope I will never have to repeat because that recording was world’s and worlds of awful. It bothers me to say this because I am an ardent admirer of those first two legendary Iron Maiden albums that featured the singer but now some three decades later Paul has truly lost his voice and ability to put on a rocking show that is deserving of the fans hard earned money. If you want to see the larger thoughts about the concert I will refer you to the CD review HERE because with this one I just wanted to see if the video aspect of it was any different and honestly I was foolish to expect anything better of this performance.

“The Beast Arises” by Paul DiAnno

Artist: Paul DiAnno
Title: “The Beast Arises
Label: Metal Mind Productions
Release Date: 10/21/2014
Genre: Heavy Metal
Rating: 2/5

Unless you have been living under a rock or are a Metalhead that is far too young to remember this sort of thing, Paul DiAnno was the original voice of the mighty Iron Maiden and he recorded both their debut self-titled album, its follow up “Killers” and the “Maiden Japan” live effort during his tenure. It was legendary stuff back in its time and began the process of Iron Maiden eventually becoming one of history’s greatest Heavy Metal bands. That was then, this is now and since that time Paul has toured as a solo artist doing “Best Of” shows that feature his Iron Maiden works along with tunes from his solo band Battlezone. “The Beast Arises” is a live set that was recorded in April 2014 at the Lizard King Club in Cracow, Poland and joining Paul for his band are Robert Kasanowski (guitar), Michael Wrona (guitar), Dominik Wojcik (drums) and Artur Pochwala (bass). I’m going to assume that Paul assembled these musicians from the local area circuit for a group of shows based on how he had done his appearances in the USA. During the gigs that I attended he had the guys from a band called Icarus Witch doing all the material behind him and while the band sounded fine for the task that had been assigned them, Paul appeared to be having some difficulty during the show. This experience that I speak of is now several years ago, now let’s discuss the more recent recordings.

Paul DiAnno @ B.B. King Blues Club (12/21/2010)

Logo - Paul DiAnno

Artist: Paul DiAnno
Venue: B.B. King Blues Club (New York, NY)
Opener: Icarus Witch, Shitkill
Date: 12/21/2010
Label: Independent Artist

Considering I had only seen him perform at the beginning of the year, I was debating whether or not I should go out to see Paul DiAnno in concert once again because how much different was it going to be from the last time right? The show in January was a good enough time for those of the Metal Republic who came out to support the one time Iron Maiden singer and it had been a long time since he had been able to come and do that. The decision was easy once the venue announced how the singer was planning on delivering the full “Iron Maiden” album along with selections from their second album “Killers” on their show posters. That was a good thing since the last time around a common complaint from those I spoke with was that he did too much “other stuff” and should have kept it strictly Maiden.

The openers for the show would be some young Metallers that went by the name Shitkill and I would miss them entirely. Some friends in the realm have high hopes for them but I do fear for their success rate across the board with a name like that. I guess as I get older that I am getting a little wary of some things in the music scene. I hope to hear them sometime and I do wish anyone who wishes to make their sound known in Metal all the best. Following this very short set would once again be Icarus Witch who I last caught as the openers for Y&T over the summer. At that gig they really impressed me and I think that the bands new singer really upgrades the bands game. They are a traditional based Metal band and pretty solid as a live act. I would give them a listen if you are only just now hearing their name. Their latest album is called “Draw Down The Moon” and its on Cleopatra Records should you like to investigate further. They sounded great tonight but I didn’t make note of the set list being performed. A lot of it sounded like what we get on the album which makes it an even sounder recommendation. Now for the return once again of Mr. Paul DiAnno.
