The Heavy Metal and Hard Rock music scene of years gone by will leaf backward through the pages of its history book to some really good times and celebrate a famous concert promoter and the two venues that were under his command. Read on down below about the February 2020 “Reunion” Celebrations of The Sundance and The Roxy.
The Press Release:
On Saturday February 15th and Saturday February 22nd 2020, Long Island music venue impresario Frank Cariola’s decades spanning career will be celebrated in a 2 Night event at Mulcahy’s Concert Hall in Wantagh staged with an all star lineup presented by Loaded Concerts. The 90 year old Cariola will be present at the shows to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award that he has certainly proven himself to be worthy of.
Frank Cariola’s Sundance started as a country music club in January 1981 in Bay Shore, New York, eventually switching over to rock in 1985. If that sounds like a familiar story, it is. Hilly Crystal’s CBGB’s, which stood for “Country, Bluegrass and Blues,” was originally a country music bar before changing over to the seminal punk rock mecca that it became. Likewise, after Sundance became a rock venue, it hosted some of the biggest rock and heavy metal bands in history.
We’ve been sharing the intelligence secured from the folks behind the scenes at the much vaunted Wacken Open Air Festival (as seen HERE) and while it’s a new month for their side of the fence, its still Halloween over here in the states and what better a day to share news involving their event and the insanity that is Slipknot. Read on.
The Press Release:
Midnight, the witching hour – even more so in the final night of October to the 1st of November, when according to the popular American Halloween tradition all sorts of ghosts, vampires, and other nocturnal creatures are roaming around in seach of sweets and other treats.
Sure it was great to see the news earlier today about the 25th Anniversary celebrations for the Vans Warped Tour (seen HERE just in case you didn’t scroll too far back), but this is the kind of news that makes the morning coffee all the more enjoyable. Historically speaking, the Thrash Metal titans known as Overkill have been wrecking our necks since 1980 and their catalog is rife with tunes that inspire some of the wildest mosh pits ever experienced. 2018 finds the band celebrating two of their bodies of work with the live CD/DVD entitled “Live In Overhausen” which comes care of their label, Nuclear Blast Records. Recently the band unveiled the first trailer about the release. Check it out.
About The Clip: Celebrating the band’s history, Live In Overhausen, captured not one but two album anniversaries. Fans assembled on April 16, 2016 at Turbinenhalle 2 in Oberhausen, Germany for the 25th Anniversary of “Horrorscope” and 30th Anniversary of where it all began, “Feel The Fire”. A full night of kill from the past played loud and in its entirety!
PiercingMetal Thoughts: Truth be told this is not a big deal of a trailer outside of it sharing the ideas that will be manifested in the forthcoming live video release and its subsequent album. It’s a nice teaser but the band founders who speak (Blitz and D.D.) don’t really outline much more than they decided to do two of their classic albums for the recording. It’s not a bad idea since we haven’t had a live Overkill recording in many, many years. This behind the scenes clip doesn’t even feature any of their sonic live show outside of a quick blink of the stage from the audience. I’ll be watching out for additional trailers and will surely share them here when we are alerted. Did you like this teaser? Chime in below as its always welcome.
