So here we are again with what I am calling “Part Two” of the Day One coverage of NY Comic Con & Anime Festival 2010.  My reason for the sub-dividing of it all was based on my seeing so much and wanting to share it all with you.  If you have never attended a Comic Con like this you will really thank me for it later.  To say that I was “camera happy” would be an understatement but again there was a lot to absorb.  Let’s get down to it. Here’s a living dead girl supporting the “It Sucks To Be Dead” title.

Next up is our friend Steve Bunche, Media Ronin and Comics Expert Emeritus. I’ve known Steve a long time and ran into him again after many years on the train to work. He’s tossed some of his views into the fires of PiercingMetal content as well. Right now he was catching a break and watching the Connor/Palmiotti tables in Artists Alley.

Now let’s get back to some of the artists tables. Here is Victor Ochoa and his books “Toxicity” and “Beloved”.

It’s that time of year again when the NY Comic Con & Anime Festival hit NYC and take over the Jacob Javits Center for a few days.  This yearly event brings together the mighty hordes of comic book fans and Cosplayers alike gathered en masse to mingle with artists and the companies that provide this entertainment medium, and there are even celebrities in attendance for good measure.   The crowd of people is in the tens of thousands and this is the best place to be if you love comic books, video games and want to interact with people who hold similar interests.   You might be wondering why this would be given space on a site that is primarily focused on the Heavy Metal music scene but truth be told I’ve been a fan of the comics medium for many, many years but don’t collect them as actively as I used to based on space constraints.  I still read them when I can and am amazed about the amount of changes that have taken place in a number of the character histories but that is not what this narrative is about.  Instead, this blog posting is about my adventures at the Convention and aimed at showing you what caught our attention as we wandered its massive displays over the course of three days.  I figured with the amount of musical artists who had vested interests in the medium that we would find some interesting stuff as we adventured.  I’ve broken the journey up into individual days but be aware that even in doing this that the narratives are long.  Let’s get this trip underway shall we?

"Meanwhile At The Hall Of Justice"

It begins here at the Jacob Javits Center and this would be my first time covering the convention as a member of the press so I wanted to take full advantage of what was going on inside these walls.  As I walked toward the Javits Center I was reminded of the classic “Challenge Of The Super Friends” cartoon and hence my photographs quote.  It’s best to say this in a deep and powerful voice.

Warning: This blog posting is rated “I.I.” for “Incredibly Immature”.  Now with you all warned and advised we can get down to the business at hand and that is to explore a little deeper into the past weekends adventuring which was the one and only NY Comic Con & Anime Festival.  This massive event which was held at the Javits center over the course of three days will be discussed in full in some future blog narratives so please stay tuned for them.  This particular article is to discuss the appearance of those Video Game Metal maniacs – The Mighty Powerglove who were in attendance at the Con and wreaking havoc at both their own booth and around the exhibition hall of the convention itself.  PiercingMetal.com was covering the convention and spent some time with The Glove and proudly present to you some of the more memorable moments in words and images.

Since there is a good chance that you are not yet aware of just who Powerglove is, let me explain that they are considered “Video Game Metal” and came into many peoples attention by playing the themes of popular video games such as “Tetris”, “Sonic The Hedge Hog” and “Mario Brothers”.  These songs and many others were amped up to the Nth degree and given interesting titles such as “So Sexy Robotnic”, “Mario Minor”, “Vanquish The Horrible Night” and well, you get the point. You can find all of these songs on the bands independent release Metal Kombat for the Mortal Man but I recommend that you get one quick before fame goes to their heads and a copy costs you hundreds upon hundreds of dollars on E-bay.

PiercingMetal Goes To New York Comic Con & Anime Festival 2010: Overview

Event: NY Comic Con and Anime Festival 2010
Artist: Various Artists
Venue: Jacob Javits Center (New York, NY)
Date: 10/8-10/10/2010
Label: Independent

For the past few days NYC played host to the 5th Annual New York Comic Con and Anime Festival that was being held at the Jacob Javits Center over on the West Side Highway. This massive event was set to span three full days and with this being the case I decided that it was probably the best to present what I paid attention to on each individual day across a couple of chapters apiece for your maximum enjoyment. I also felt that these chapters would be best served up on the Official Blog of PiercingMetal because that is where the non-music related topics are most easily digested based on the flow of the narratives. This article that you are reading now will serve as a sort of traffic sign to not only direct you over to the blogs comprehensive coverage but also allow me to offer up some side thoughts on the experience and to have another means to share the photo galleries that we snagged. I’ll be doing this on a day by day analysis for ease of flow. Let’s get down to business.

New York Comic Con 2010 Begins Today!!!!

Have I ever mentioned to you readers that I am a major comic book geek? If I haven’t then let me put that on the table right now. I was a big time collector of the medium for many, many years and only recently cut back on the stuff based on space and financials being needed for other things in life.

Anyway, that being said I am super excited about my being a member of the attending press for the 2010 NY Comic Con and Anime Festival which will be held at the Jacob Javits Center over the next few days. You might be surprised at my saying that this is the first year that I have ever attempted such a feat as a professional and while I agree that I should have been doing this for years already; I just never got around to setting the whole thing up. My plan is to cover this event as extensively as possible and that means lots of photographs and lots of narrative views. The Javits Center is a huge space and I have heard many stories from media colleagues and friends who attended in the recent past about this being a crushing amount of humanity to contend with. I will be going on all of the days and starting with my semi-private voyage of the Press Time so wish me luck.
