The 2017 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees Are:

rock and roll hall of fame

Well the votes have been submitted and I am not speaking about the whole Electoral College ones and instead am here to reveal the 2017 inductees to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Check them out below along with some quick notations.

The Class of 2017 Is:

Electric Light Orchestra: ELO has long been one of my favorite artists based on just how many songs I knew by them and could sing word for word thanks to the traditional Rock radio of the past. Congrats to Jeff and the rest of the group. Looking forward to seeing their performance on the broadcast.

Journey: I think I’ve been listening to Journey almost as long as I’ve been listening to KISS and that my friends is a very, very, very long time. Super stoked to see them inducted and while the jury is still out on whether or not Steve Perry will perform with them on the stage I hope we get Greg Rolie up there as well since he was a vital part of their earliest success.

Tour - Journey and Santana - Winter 2016

PiercingMetal Thoughts: The classic era of Santana with all those wonderful hits sung by the great Gregg Rolie are songs that I remember so fondly and can say that I grew up alongside. I was too young to be a part of the Woodstock experience of course and NO I was not conceived there in case you wondered, but my family always had music on and fortunately for me my Mom was someone who always left the Rock station on. I guess she realized I liked it when I was on the young side. So yeah that stuff is iconic to me. Then there is Journey who I first heard with the album “Evolution” and was hooked immediately. They became one of my very favorite bands and I was super stoked to even see them live during the blockbuster “Escape” and “Frontiers” tours. The idea of Journey acting as the support act and finding Santana once again working with the members of his historic and most groundbreaking period is making my hands shake with excitement. I am going to do my best to be a part of that Madison Square Garden show and you should too if you know what’s good for you. Please let me know what you think of the whole matter in the comments section below.

“The Woodstock Experience” by Santana

Artist: Santana
Title: “The Woodstock Experience”
Label: Sony Legacy
Release Date: 6/30/2009
Genre: Rock
Rating: 5/5

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival, Sony Legacy has released a number of special recordings under the title of “The Woodstock Experience”. While available as a limited edition boxed set, the five recordings are also available separately. Each comes packaged in a sturdy cardboard slipcase that houses the album that the artist had released or been supporting at that time in 1969 along with a second CD that features their full Woodstock Festival performance. They are placed in mini-album covers and where the original album is a complete replica, the Woodstock set offers historical liner notes about the gig. It also features a poster of the artist that was taken at the show. The five releases present Johnny Winter, Santana, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and Sly & The Family Stone. As we did not have the limited edition box set we are instead offering up views on the releases on a one by one basis. Here are our thoughts on the “Santana: The Woodstock Experience” CD.

“Santana” – Santana’s self-titled debut album was a really interesting point in music history as it bridged the gap between soulful Latin styles and Progressive Rock music while managing to keep you interested in its groove with melody after melody. The stunning guitar wizardry of Carlos Santana and Neil Schon combined with the powerhouse drumming of Michael Shrieve made this a powerful Rock combo in and of itself but when you added in the likes of Chepito and Michael Carabello on timbales and congas, the unmistakable Latin flair just hooked you in and kept you. When you consider how the rich Hammond organ sound and vocals from Gregg Rolie were there as well you knew that the output was just going to be magic. This debut album from the band had only just come out after their appearance at the legendary Woodstock Festival and there are no less than five numbers on it that were played at the show. Most of the release is instrumental in base, but there are bona fide classics among these such as “Evil Ways”, “Jingo” and “You Just Don’t Care”. It’s one of those amazing places to start ones adventure into a bands material as many of these songs are still played in concert today by Santana and the other members of his band that have long gone their separate ways.

Journey @ Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (8/30/2008)

Logo - Journey

Artist: Journey
Venue: Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (Bethel Woods, NY)
Opener: Cheap Trick & Heart
Date: 8/30/2008
Label: Columbia Records

While it’s true that I make sure to attend and review a lot of concerts that come through the Big Apple for the sake of the Metal and Hard Rock fans for the web readers at large, it is not too often that I allow myself the luxury of focusing on the Classic Rock greats that got me interested in music in the first place. It’s also rather difficult to get outside of the NYC region when one considers just how many great bands manage to roll through town on a regular basis. Despite this being the case I actually needed to do this when I realized that I had missed the chance to see the one and only Journey perform at one of my favorite outdoor venues – the PNC Bank Arts Center. The band was not only celebrating a stunning new album, but also introducing their new singer and to up the ante on this tour they were bringing Cheap Trick and Heart along as well. My only option was to head up North about 90 miles to the site of the original Woodstock Festival of 1969, the beautiful Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. I was excited about this particular Rock and Roll journey because I had never been to the venue or the Woodstock grounds ever before and considering the historic nature of the property had to admit that this was going to be a whole lot of fun. My friends and I snared a parking space about a half miles walk from the venue and all around us were folks enjoying the warm summer day by cooking, playing music and indulging in the ever present pre-game beer drinking. The grounds are beautiful and its one of those places that on a clear day seems like the perfect cure for the 9-5 weekday blues. The venue is not too far from the original site and some markers and signs have been set up to commemorate the event and sadly I had not arrived early enough to absorb this spot or the onsite museum that the Center offers its visitors. Here is how the concert went.
