Lordi Announces North American “Monstour” For 2017

I was perusing the web looking up some bands that I had not seen in quite a while and ended up on the page for the band Lordi who as luck would have it, had just announced a new and exciting tour for the USA that would be coming in 2017. Considering we are in July at the moment, its hard to even imagine 2017 as something to be paying attention to but there we go. I’ve embedded the bands official statement along with the poster and some biography information since I am sure a lot of you readers do not know what to expect from this particular band. Here we go.

The Statement:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, a long awaited North American tour is now reality!! Lordi Monstour will travel over seas in 2017, starting in Vancouver Canada 2nd of February. Check out the tour dates and join the monstrous party in your city!”

Lordi @ Fillmore at Irving Plaza (11/24/2008)

It was a Heavy Metal Monster Mash as Lordi and his Horrific Legions took to the stage of The Fillmore NY tonight. They would bring along Lizzy Borden and that was bound to upgrade the game just a little bit more. We were on point for the main bands and shot a lot of photos for all to enjoy. Just scroll past the logo below to be taken to our item.

Venue: Fillmore NY (New York, NY)
Opener: Lizzy Borden, Fixer, Ben Does
Date: 11/24/2008
Label: The End Records

I had a number of reasons for being excited about this show since it would officially be the first time that Lordi was going to do a headlining appearance in New York City, and they would be bringing along California’s legendary Lizzy Borden along for the ride. Clearly each of these bands are such great visual acts that make for easy live concert enjoyment and with both possessing new material for the hungry Metal head to sink their teeth into we were bound to have a fantastic time. Of course, sinking ones teeth into the Metal was also meant quite literally given the horror movie themed acts that this particular tour was going to present and it was all going to happen at the Fillmore NY, at Irving Plaza. For some odd reason my belief was that another The End Records band would be performing tonight, and I mean Stolen Babies who I had enjoyed during the “Hot Chicks Of Metal” tour a little over a year ago, but I was mistaken. Instead of that interesting band we had two other openers in Ben Does and Fixer. I missed Ben Does entirely and it seemed as though I was not the only one as the room was half empty while Fixer was on and while I am not one to knock down an opening act, I had to say that their set was arduous to get through. Maybe I need to see them on a different bill, but I just could not keep interest and was hell bent on enjoying some Lizzy Borden as each and every note of theirs went by. Fortunately they did not play too long and Lizzy Borden was going to hit the stage in moments.

Ozzy Osbourne’s “Ozzfest” @ PNC Bank Arts Center (8/16/2007)

This year Ozzfest was going to be free and also find some of the most brutal of the Metal bands around as a part of it. Getting the ticket was easy if you followed some details and the capacity crowd affair found Ozzy taking the stage with the likes of Lamb Of God, Static X, Lordi, Black Tide, Hatebreed, Behemoth, Devildriver, In This Moment, Nile, and Chthonic as the Metal lead offs. Our travel to the show caused us some delays and hence missing a few acts but we were there to bring you the scoop so to see more just keep scrolling down past the logo. It was an incredible day of Metal under the blistering heat of the summer sun.

In 2007 it was decided that instead of charging an incredible amount for tickets that the Ozzfest event would be free of charge and be aptly referred to as “Freefest”. If the Metal Legions wanted access to the show they would need to follow advertising and sponsor promotional links or purchase the new Ozzy Osbourne album in order to potentially be allotted a pair of tickets. This might sound pretty straightforward but it was actually a little more confusing that many had expected it to be. There was talk of redeeming issues and continual internet run around which I can attest to being true as I tried to help my friend get his tickets for the area appearance in my vicinity. Since the show was going to be free it would mean that the bands themselves would not be paid and instead get all their operating capital from merchandise sales at each stop on the tour. Resultant of this the now free event would not attract what some people considered to be “top tier bands” and instead drew groups like Lordi, Behemoth, Hatebreed, Lamb Of God and Static X to its stages. I really had a problem with people who were making that statement because while a band like Disturbed and System Of A Down might be good and at times quite heavy, when compared to some of the bands that I just named, come up very short in terms of being in touch with the actual Metal scene of today. These “underground Metal upstarts” for the roster in 2007 would quite possibly go down in history as the MOST relevant lineup based on what is happening in the Metal world right now. This aspect appealed to me as both a journalist and fan of Heavy Metal music overall.
