The Press Release:
Ensiferum released their critically acclaimed full-length, Thalassic, in 2020 via Metal Blade Records and was lauded as an album “that brings pure joy to all of their fans” (Metal Hammer Germany). The Finland-based group are extremely excited to bring the album on the road in the spring of 2022 on a co-headline run with Swedish metal masters Dark Tranquillity! To celebrate the amazing news, the band released a new video for the fan favorite cut “Run from the Crushing Tide” from Thalassic. The Vesa Ranta (Solstafir, Dark Tranquillity, Swallow the Sun) directed video can be seen below:

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I don’t think that I have to convince anyone about the power of DT on the live concert stage as it’s like being on a Heavy Metal Rollercoaster in terms of all the frenetic chaos that their songs bring to life. I caught them several months ago in NYC and am happy that we are finding them coming back for another go at the Big Apple. Fans here really enjoy when this band visits and they know it. Let’s add to this the energetic Warbringer who have now signed onto Napalm Records and are performing with what I understand to be several new members. Fans in my region were no stranger to this band as they were on so many supporting lists it was not funny. I’m interested in hearing how they’ve changed since the last time I happened to catch them. It’s been a while. The only new band for me comes care of Striker and some of my Metal Media buddies have been speaking highly of them so I need to check them out. What do you readers think of this new tour? Will you be hitting one of the many appearances that we are getting out of them? Let me know down in the comments section below.

Dark Tranquillity’s “Character” Strong With Integrity @ 10 Years (2005-2015)

Artist: Dark Tranquillity
Title: “Character”
Label: Century Media Records
Release Date: 1/24/2005
Genre: Melodic Death Metal

I want to start this Music Milestone reflection by saying that 2015 is a big year for me personally because my PiercingMetal.com site will reach its tenth year online just before tax time in April and with that being the case I am paying a close level of scrutiny on many of the Metal albums that are reaching their own tenth year over these next few months. Now let’s get this underway and raise a couple of pairs of horns for the great Gothenburg Metal band Dark Tranquillity and their album “Character” which reaches its tenth year on this very day. The album was the bands seventh release and came to the fans care of Century Media Records (where they are still dishing out new and exciting material). When I first heard this I didn’t have too much of a background in this type of Metal because I was sheltering myself in the safety of bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden along with copious amounts of KISS. Fortunately getting some suggestions to focus on this kind of band and others of their type allowed for a greater personal musical growth and this is a practice I recommend to any fan that finds themselves content with three or four bands and nothing more. With “Character”, Dark Tranquillity reminded fans why they are such a legendary provider of the Gothenburg Metal sound and through it all, Mikael Stanne growls his points home. There are no clean vocals to be found on “Character” but with the intensity of the melodies behind Stanne’s rage I don’t think anyone will mind. This is as satisfying a listen at ten years that it was at one year. Before I reflect upon my favorite tunes from the album I wanted to stress how almost all of the members on this release (Stanne, Sundlin, Jivarp, Henriksson and Brandstrom) are still a part of the lineup in today’s music world with the exception of bassist Niklasson. I should also mention that when DT recently blew through town on tour only a few weeks ago there was NO bassist in the lineup and parts were done via keyboards. Perhaps they are not looking to replace him but if they are I suggest any readers with sufficient skill get their chops up and their resumes ready.

The Details: If you know your Metal history and consider the Gothenburg sound to be one of your favorite of the vast offerings then you already know full well the power and impact that the band Dark Tranquillity has had upon the musical geography since their inception in 1989. The band still features original members in its lineup and tours extensively which makes their visit to our fair metropolis a very interesting proposition. Let’s add to the appeal by letting you know how the band will be here with Finland’s Omnium Gatherum and since they have never before been to our shores this show is going to blow the fans minds. All this stuff makes me happy to announce this contest for the bands “Worlds Construct Tour” when it hits the sleek Stage 48 venue on the West Side. Many thanks to their powers that be for the chance to bring PiercingMetal fans into the mix for free. Read more on how to participate.

Dark Tranquillity @ Blender Theater at Gramercy (3/26/2007)

Tonight was a co-headlining tour that was being done by The Haunted and Dark Tranquillity and depending on what night you went you would have one or the other switching off the main band spot. In NYC the show would find Dark Tranquillity being the main attraction and the killer show also featured Scar Symmetry who were making their first appearance in the states along with popular opening mainstays Into Eternity who were welcoming new members to their ranks. We made sure to be in the new Blender Theater early enough to be able to document all of the bands in words and images. Should you want to see more just click the logo below to be taken to our article on the main PiercingMetal.com site.

Venue: Gramercy Theatre (New York, NY)
Opener: The Haunted, Into Eternity, Scar Symmetry
Date: 3/26/2007
Label: Century Media Records

I guess I should say right off the bat that there were a few reasons that I wanted to check out this show and the first of these would be my chance to do a little exploration into a newly opened venue. Conveniently located on E23rd Street off Lexington Avenue, The Gramercy Theatre is a former movie house that has been modified to handle music performances. The venue is served up like a miniature version of the Nokia Theatre and has both a general admission standing area and seating. Whether the seating will be assigned for some shows is not clear to me but it could very well be the case depending on who is performing. I wasn’t sure of the capacity of the place, but guessed around 800 which make it smaller than both Irving Plaza and B.B. Kings at full attendance. This allows the fan to get up close to their favorite players should they pay a visit. Tonight’s show would also be exciting because it was the first appearance on US Shores for Scar Symmetry and I have been loving their latest Nuclear Blast Records release “Pitch Black Progress”. Into Eternity would perform and it’s always nice to see these guys. Tonight they would have two new members with Justin Bender of guitar and find name on drums. Labeled “The Metal For The Masses” Tour the event would be headlined by The Haunted with the co-headliner being Dark Tranquillity. On my arrival to the venue I was pleased to find that tonight’s show would be one of the Dark Tranquilllity headlining spots as the two groups had been switching it up as they rolled through America. Here is how it went down for me so pay attention.
