Today is “Batman Day” and its a celebration of all things Caped Crusader. The Midtown Comics locations in the city will be offering up freebies and special Dark Knight deals. This event is celebrated in numerous other participating LCS in the nation so come out to support them.
This past Saturday was “Free Comic Book Day” and as a pretty close to lifelong comic book fan, I made a small pilgrimage around our Metropolis to visit a few of the local comic shops to see how they were doing things for this always special occasion. Before I begin, let me explain to the newbies about what this is. “Free Comic Book Day” is as simple as it sounds. One gets to enjoy a batch of free comic books at a participating retailer but its important to know that each shop has their own way of doing things. Sometimes you get a whole stack or something just a few issues that you can pick from the releases. My first stop on that First Saturday in May would be Galaxy Comics in Park Slope.
As a Bay Ridge resident, my regular comic book store is their Bay Ridge branch located right next to the Alpine Theater but they have not been doing FCBD at this location for a couple of years now. To enjoy the offerings from them I had to head down to Park Slope. Galaxy was permitting a maximum of “5” comics from the FCBD releases and it was already crowded just past 10AM. Can you predict the five choices that I would make at this location?

Today is “Free Comic Book Day” and it will be celebrated in the NYC regional Midtown Comics stores along with other participating retailers. Come on out and get some free comic books and browse through their racks to purchase additional items. This will be while supplies last of course.
Fear not citizens, “Batman Day” has arrived for fans of the legendary Caped Crusader and will take place at Midtown Comics locations and other comic book retailers if they are opting to participate. There will be some freebie special comics and discounts on anything Batman so bring some money to show thanks for such a wonderful geeky time.
When I did the “Free Comic Book Day” video briefs compilation last year, I mused to myself about perhaps making this piece of the adventure a regular thing. Sure the videos are already on the Official YouTube Channel to be enjoyed by anyone that happens upon them but when one runs a website with this tenure one also must look to always expanding the content and keeping it interesting. This year, “Free Comic Book Day” arrives on what has been referred to as “Star Wars Day” and that aspect alone cemented the idea. As in the video post from last year I would once again be heading to a number of our local comic book shops to see what was going on. My first stop would be the Galaxy Comics store in Park Slope.
