Welcome To The All-New PiercingMetal.com

On April 4th 2014, PiercingMetal.com celebrated the achievement of having been online consistently for nine years (discussed HERE) while its companion Blog “PiercingMetal Musings”; reached its own “Lucky 7th” milestone only a few days later (discussed HERE). With 2014 almost at its halfway point, I made the decision to move on from the sites original design (seen for one last time in this posting below our logo) and move forward with new articles and images in a WordPress model. They say that the only constant is change and this is especially true when it comes to technology and all the things that you can do with it. Change is also cited as being good for the most part but I will admit that in this particular instance it was a bit daunting because I was so used to the layout that I had and have been using it since February 2005. New readers will not know this but there was a couple of months of live testing time before the “Official Launch Day” of 4/4/2005 and back then you could have a live website that no one knew about until you told them that it was there to be perused. Here is the final official glimpse of it.

I was indeed hard to move on from a layout that one has gotten so used to for so long but while I loved the way that PiercingMetal.com looked during its beginnings and over the years and how it felt to me as a technical person in terms of content building, it was high time for a more modern flow using the powerful tools and means that software such as WordPress provides you with as a creative entity. As you can see on the new Menus, almost all of the options that were found in our original design are here to be enjoyed in the new framework. I did drop a couple of items since I have not yet figured out a way to best offer them up here and some others are gone for good. That said there are still items forthcoming, but they require some serious adjustment before being presented in this new model. The photo galleries in particular is the area that needs the most rethinking in WordPress.

The Menus will offer up easy access to the Official PiercingMetal Blog which of course hosts our Comic Book themed posts and the films that we enjoy the most. With this WordPress installation the two sides of PiercingMetal will work even closer in tandem than they had before. This was not easily possible in the old design. If you are wondering about the few thousand review articles that I had online, well they are still here for you to peruse but for the time being you need to access them differently. For now, the menu option “Legacy Reviews” is where you can read and enjoy those articles. Please bear in mind that it’s a simple directory listing but it can easily be searched by the band or album title with the “Ctrl-F” function once you are there. These are the actual reviews that you used to see on the original site and over time I will be transferring all of these articles into the new design while at the same time keeping focused on giving you some exciting new articles that will sustain your Metal hungers. The difference between how an article posted in traditional HTML as opposed to WordPress requires that each item be looked at carefully but at least they will take the most advantage of it. The dates will reflect the same as they did on the original site because that is when they were done, so something written way back in the beginning shall be posted with that same date in the new framework. Our Social Networking options are pretty visible in the new layout and so is our ever-popular calendar and one of the things this allows is for a presentation of our most recent blogs which I think is pretty cool because PiercingMetal Musings has become a voice of its own during its seven-year lifetime. One of the things I have been doing since this quiet relaunch is importing many of the music related blog posts into the new WordPress installation. There are some things that are duplicates over there and were used to entice the frequenters of blogs to come visit the main original website.

Though converting the old stuff will be a lot of work, at the end of the day it will make PiercingMetal a much better experience for you readers and that has always been the goal.  Many thanks to all the readers who been coming here for a while, I’m glad that you do and I hope that you will keep on with us as we continue to raise the horns of Metal for the masses in this new fashion.  Welcome to any new readers, I look forward to entertaining you. Feel free to let me know what you think about our sleek new phase in our comments section, and I shall see you in the field sometime soon if you are in our region. Don’t forget to give some love to our various social networking accounts which are down below for your easiest access.

PiercingMetal.com Is Seven Years Old Today!!!

I am happy to report that PiercingMetal Is Seven Years Old Today!!!

Can you believe it? I know that it surprises me when I say it aloud but yes it’s indeed true as my PiercingMetal.com website is now seven years old and was officially launched to the world on this day back in 2005. I remember saying when we hit year six that while the domain was “live” for two months already that it was such a different technological landscape back then. Incredibly enough, a whole lot more has changed since I wrote that last anniversary narrative some 365 days ago. I also admit that I felt as if I had just posted my yearly editorial thoughts for 2011 but that was already months ago so you can tell time is flying as we get further into 2012. You’ll have to pardon me if I repeat some of the same thoughts and views as I reflect a little on the site and share where my head is at on the whole thing and what I want for it going forward. I had a little fun with the images for this one so please enjoy those as well.

PiercingMetal.com is Six Years Old Today!!!

piercingmetal logo, website logos, piercingmetal

Has it been six years already? Man, time sure does fly when you think about it.

The funny thing about anniversaries when it comes to PiercingMetal.com is that the date is not 100% correct based on the fact that we were building and loading content into what appeared to be a stable and functional design for two months before we launched and announced our presence to the Metal Republic. Back in early 2005 it was a little easier to be online and remain “hidden” so to speak. Some might say that this is cheating, but in truth it is not because how much fun is the announcement of a “Coming Soon” banner or learning of a potentially cool new website with only two or three articles loaded into it? In my humble opinion that is not much fun at all so we coded, tested and waited until almost all of my past writing work was ready to go in the new format which we launched six years ago today on 4/4/2005.

PiercingMetal’s Editorial for 2010

Editorial: The Year in Reviews for 2010

Did anyone get the license plate number on the truck that hit us all and called itself 2010? Wow what a year for the Metal Scene and individuals as a whole this was. It was one of those years that just when you managed to dust off your jacket and get your head clear that something else would come at you and knock you back down. Of course there were those who felt that it was not all that bad for them but the larger consensus that I established was that it was a year that many were happy to see go away so we could hope for better memories and experiences in the coming one. The economy didn’t change for the better for many of us and for those who pursue the medium of being a review scribe there were changes in how we did things that while some viewed as more economical made the task all the more hard. Despite some of the harder moments of the 2010 months I had to say that the focus and resolve of what I do for you on PiercingMetal remained strong. It was a year where more emphasis was based on the concert reports and delivering photos to you instead of just being one of the many product reviewers out there. I have always made it a point about the site being something of a catch all that gave you more than just a standard expectation. We also worked more closely with those representatives of the media who have been our best allies since site launch and didn’t bother with the ones who felt that our voice was not as important to them as some others might now be. Let’s face it; there is a ton of places to surf online and perhaps based on all of the other stimulus available, a little too much. I’ve broken down some parts of the site into segments to speak on them as I have been doing since we started with this little experiment back in 2005. It’s not a best of list or a what I felt was amazing against that which was not, but more my views on the various facets of the industry I am dealing with as a writer and founder of the site and how I see it moving forward for the greater Metal good. There’s a lot to absorb so thanks in advance for continuing along in this. Let’s get down to business with this “State Of The Site” observation.

PiercingMetal.com Is Five Years Old Today!!!

“I remember now, I remember how it started”

Seriously, I really do remember how all of this began and I hope that no one minds my borrowing the famous opening line from Queensryche’s magnum opus “Operation: Mindcrime” because it was either use something profound as my lead off statement or be corny with something like “five score and seven beers ago”. Truly one can never go wrong with following in the footsteps of Metal greatness so thanks to Mr. Tate and the boys for giving me something to work with in this commentary as I reflect upon running this website for five years now.
