Win A Ticket To See Scorpions and Megadeth at Madison Square Garden on 9/16/2017

The Details: As a comic book reader growing up there were two series that I loved and they were “Marvel Team-Up” and “Marvel Two-In-One” and essentially these were tales that took two great characters and united them for a single purpose. I thought of this when it came to the upcoming tour that features the legendary Scorpions and the mighty Megadeth as they plan to hit the awesome Madison Square Garden this Saturday. I have been listening to these two bands for as long as I can remember and was getting very excited about bringing a story and images to your attention soon after. Then I learned that thanks to the fine folks in the Marketing division of the LiveNation team that will be putting in some truly lucky fans into the show on the house. I am stoked because I think this amounts to our biggest bands to have given away tickets to yet. Check out the details on how to participate.

When and Where: Saturday, September 16th @ Madison Square Garden (NYC)

To Participate: This is NOT an easy one at all but still runs on the same premise as our other contests. I am sticking to the three things about the band that makes your fist pump high into the air and raise the love of the Metal in your very soul but for this one I am assigning some homework. Please give me “3” things that you like most about the bands and I mean each of them so “6” total points. There shouldn’t be any newbies to the music of Scorpions and Megadeth that’s for sure. Perhaps there are albums that “spoke” to you or concert appearances that sent you to the music shop to snag some of the band members earlier works. Just give me three solid answers for each and how important it is to be at this show. I know I make you work but I work here too so whining about the process will not win out at all LOL. Make this good reading because the stuff remains on the website and can likely inspire new fans as well on how our freebies work. Writing “because they slay dude” is just too un-original and boring. I’ll be responding to the comments that I like most right below their answer. Kindly review some guidelines before entering your submission. Extra credit is welcome of course if you’d like to laud the greatness of the other performers as well. We don’t have a lot of tickets for this one.

Scorpions @ Hessentagsarena; Rüsselsheim, Germany (6/11/2017)

The Kat was continuing her Metal prowl across Germany and tossing back some views on truly great artists and sharing the skinny with us back home at the Metal Command HQ in NYC. As these came in I also made notes on where I will need to go should I ever get there and now we hear a quick summary of her Scorpions experience.

After ditching me to see the historic Deep Purple, my dad thought we was going to enjoy a night of rest at home sans concert. Wrong. I’ve only seen Scorpions as a clueless and young kid with a lack of familiarity as to who the people with funny accents were talking with my father, so I was going to attend a show I would remember.

Germany has produced its fair share of hard rock and heavy metal, but no act has had the stay that the Scorpions continue to enjoy 50 years on! Every single member of this legendary outfit was running around the festival stage as if they were 18 again. I met 2 pre-teens who had never been to a concert before and all they could say was, “When is the next show?”. It was great to share this amazing experience with them.

Scorpions Set The Turntable Needles To “Sting” With 3 Classic Vinyl Reissues

The legendary rockers in Scorpions are raising the decibels higher and higher in honor of their 50th Anniversary and in addition to the continued touring, videos and special edition CD releases have decided to treat their fans with three brand new vinyl editions of some must have recordings. Below you’ll find all the press copy and then I’ll offer up my thoughts on it all.

The Press Release:
1982’s Blackout, 1984’s Love at First Sting and 1985’s double-LP World Wide Live to be re-released on remastered 180-gram vinyl to mark milestone occasion. Legendary German heavy metal band Scorpions were formed in 1965 by founding member Rudolf Schenker in Hanover, and along with longtime vocalist Klaus Meine and guitarist Matthias Jabs, have forged one of the most remarkable careers in rock ‘n’ roll history. Earlier this year the band released their brand-new album Return to Forever, and now Universal Music Enterprises is reissuing three of the group’s classic albums – 1982’s Blackout, 1984’s Love at First Sting and 1985’s double-LP World Wide Live – on remastered, high-grade, 180-gram vinyl on December 4, 2015.

The band Rolling Stone once dubbed “The Heroes of Heavy Metal” achieved their biggest commercial successes with these three albums, which is saying something in a career that has seen them sell millions of records worldwide, with six of their singles going No. 1 in different countries around the world. The band has achieved several major honors, including a star on the Hollywood Rock Walk and a World Music Rock Legend Award, among many accolades.

“Sting In The Tail” by Scorpions

Artist: The Scorpions
Title: “Sting In The Tail”
Label: Universal Music
Release Date: 3/23/2010
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 4/5

“And now………the end is here?” Really Scorpions? Really? Is this your very last studio recording and you are saying “last call” on this very illustrious career after completing the touring for the release? Well if that is the case then I guess we better get down to business so people know what they are getting when they focus their attention on that final album “Sting In The Tail”. For the bands last album they have once again returned to the Hard Rock and Metal sound that we love them so much for, and unlike its predecessor “Humanity Hour I”, this is a regular album with no “concept” driving it and each tune stands on its own. It’s not a return to the greatness that made them so special to people’s ears in the comparing it to “Blackout” or “Love At First Sting” sense, but it is not a terrible album when it comes down to it. Instead there are a number of cool highlights which I want to call your attention to. The release opens with “Raised On Rock” and it gets you into the mood straight away. This is likely the bands tour opener and it has a lot of great hooks to it so I sense it eventually becoming a Scorpions tune of legend. “Sting In The Tail” is another up tempo tune with a catchy chorus that I feel the band will be prompting the audience to join in with them on. Skipping around a little to the power ballad “The Good Die Young” I had to say that I was very interested in hearing this one since it featured former Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen. The ballad while a solid tune really doesn’t make much use of the incredible voice that Tarja has and this found be determining that the other ballad “Lorelei” is a much better one. Believe it or not there is a third ballad that comes care of “Sly” and I didn’t see the need for a trio of such tunes because none of them are as powerful as the seminal “Still Loving You”.

“Gold” by Scorpions

Artist: Scorpions
Title: “Gold”
Label: Universal Music
Release Date: 4/25/2006
Genre: Hard Rock
Rating: 3.5/5

If you look at the amount of notable output that the Scorpions have released since their inception you can easily see why they are one of the top listed veterans in Hard Rock music society. While the band was never quite Metal they often skated around the genre during their heavier years and as result offered up some anthems that are still powerhouse tunes in today’s music world. Their influence has been vast and their style and players all respected for their accomplishments in the genre without question. They were a band who over the course of their career gave the Hard Rock world not one, but three incredible guitar heroes and thanks to the Scorpions the world of shredders everywhere have the influences of Uli Jon Roth, Michael Schenker and Matthias Jabs to inspire them every day. As a fan I did not get into the group as far back as the beginning and it was not until the album “Lovedrive” that I caught on. If not for the help of some friends I might never had realized just how magical some of the older stuff actually was in terms of guitar riffing and song composition. The growing MTV generation that came into its own in the eighties can count “Rock You Like A Hurricane” as the track that made them jump on board with the band but I am proud to say that for me the beginning was traced back to “The Zoo” and “Holiday” from a couple of albums previous to the blockbuster. Yet no matter when you got into them or based on who was in the lineup the one thing that was brutally clear was that Scorpions were a powerhouse of Rock and a band whose music would largely withstand the tests of time.
