The Press Release:
New series. New directions. New beginnings. It all kicks off this July with THE LIFE OF CAPTAIN MARVEL #1!

“LIFE presents the origins of Carol Danvers and Captain Marvel in one place, and in a way we haven’t seen before,” said SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “Margie’s pulled together all of the strands of Carol’s backstory to craft a tale that will no doubt become a seminal story about the character, and set her in place for her role in AVENGERS and elsewhere throughout the Marvel Universe.”

“It’s nothing you’ll expect and nothing you’ve seen happen but there will be parts of her life that change the context of what you’ve seen before, so it’s telling the other side of the story, of how she came to be,” Stohl said of Carol’s new story.

“We’re excited to welcome comics veteran Carlos Pacheco to Captain Marvel’s legacy,” added series editor Sarah Brunstad. “Carlos draws powerful, expressive figures with incredible depth—he’s going to show us a different Carol Danvers, one who has to grapple with the choices that have brought her to this new point.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: This sounds like it could be interesting and while I am more of a fan of the original Mar-Vell Captain Marvel who dies in the original graphic novel “The Death Of Captain Marvel”, I like what Danvers brings to the table for the character now that she isn’t Ms. Marvel anymore. I can’t say that I will be picking up the individual issues though and might only peruse them on the racks while I do a silent countdown for an eventual collected edition. It seems that any mini-series has one of those released only months after the last issue has hit the stands and it usually is cheaper than all of the individual issues added together. What do you readers think about this announcement? Are you excited to learn more about Captain Marvel? Chime in down below and I will see you next time around.

Exploring Book Expo 2017: Marvel Comics @ Javits Center

As already noted over on “The Chronicles Of PiercingKen”, I was once again exploring The Book Expo (which was previously known as Book Expo America) as a member of the press. I’m an avid reader and I love exploring this event to see what is coming out based on bands and comic book characters that I enjoy. This year, I learned of a Marvel Comics panel that was happening so I sat down and listened to what some amazing authors had to say.

The assembled scribes included legendary “Goosebumps” creator R.L. Stine, Margaret Stohl, Jason Reynolds and Rainbow Rowell (pictured from left to right). Each of them was working on or had just finished titles featuring Man-Thing, Captain Marvel, Miles Morales: Spider-Man and the Runaways.

There is a whole lot of buzz surrounding Captain Marvel these days because not only is she rising in prominence on the printed pages but she will have her own film in the coming years and be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. The second part features Glass Candy who is not a band that we know all that well since they are more of an Pop Electronica and we don’t listen to a lot of that sort of stuff here at the Metal Command HQ. Check out how they continue the revelations behind the “Mighty Captain Marvel” down below.

“Everyone wishes they had superpowers,” said lead singer of The Pretty Reckless, Taylor Momsen. “I always wanted to be Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers). I even tried to look like her when I was a kid. Unfortunately, I don’t have Kree genetics so, the best alternative to being the most powerful female superhero, was to be a rock star. Now that our song is being combined with Captain Marvel, I’m as close as I can be in the real world.”

“Over the past couple of years, Captain Marvel has become the voice and champion for a whole new generation of Marvel fans,” said Director of Content Development, Sana Amanat. “Utilizing the power of Marvel’s Spotlight Music series, and headlined with The Pretty Reckless, we are so excited to introduce Carol Danvers to a brand new audience as the most powerful Marvel Super Hero of 2017 – the mighty Captain Marvel.”

Each month, a new “Captain Marvel: Alien Nation” video will be released with the latest issue of Marvel Comics’ THE MIGHTY CAPTAIN MARVEL. The “Captain Marvel: Alien Nation” videos will educate new and old fans about Stohl’s THE MIGHTY CAPTAIN MARVEL series through commentary from Stohl, motion graphics, as well as an energetic score from some of the world’s biggest female-led musical acts.

Narrated by writer, Margaret Stohl, with an energetic score from some of the world’s biggest female-led musical acts, beginning with The Pretty Reckless, “Captain Marvel: Alien Nation ” will introduce fans to the history of Carol Danvers and spotlight why she is the hero to watch moving forward.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: That was pretty cool wasn’t it? I don’t have much more to add so I will see you next time and when a new installment of this initiative comes to light I will be sure to add it. Pick up “Mighty Captain Marvel” when it hits your local comic book store and don’t forget to support The Pretty Reckless if they come around to a venue near you.
