The 64th Annual Grammy Awards Nominees have been revealed in a mile-long list of categories and that’s to be expected with this particular award since it is essentially the Academy Awards of the recording industry. Now, with that being said, as a scribe who leans towards the heavier side of music there are only a few categories that remotely interest me so please peruse below on the nominations in the Rock and Metal Category for the 2022 Awards broadcast.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I’ve got to admit that its nice to be seeing the touring updates once again and one can only hope that nothing suddenly goes South and finds wave after wave of cancellations being announced again. So believe it or not I’ve never seen GNR in concert before and that even surprises me since I was listening to them way before most of my friends were. It never seemed to be in the cards back in the heyday and now its just a wee pricey an adventure to undertake but let’s see if I can finally cross them off my bucket list with this go round. I’d love to see the MetLife Stadium show since the only other “close” date would be in Atlantic City and well, that’s a bit of a hike for me from our beautiful Brooklyn HQ. I am also very psyched to see Mammoth WVH as big things seem to be happening for the only son of the late, great Edward Van Halen. Okay, that’s all I have about this one so you kind readers can chime in down below and let me know what you think. Judging by the emails flowing into the queue this morning, I will be saying “see you next time” quite a bit today ;p – Stay tuned for more.

Mammoth WVH Present “Distance” Official Video

The sad loss of the great Eddie Van Halen still resonates hard in the hearts of his millions of fans and that pain is even greater in the heart of his son, Wolfgang Van Halen. Born into a musically gifted family, Wolfie was schooled from infancy by a true master of many instruments and now presents to the world a piece of solo music and a video that will truly find you reaching for a box of Kleenex. Behold “Distance”…

About The Video: “As my pop continued to struggle with various health issues, I was imagining what my life would be like without him and how terribly I’d miss him. While the song is incredibly personal, I think anyone can relate to the idea of having a profound loss in their life. I never intended ‘Distance’ to be the very first piece of music people would hear from me, but I also thought my father would be here to celebrate its release. This is for him. I love and miss you, Pop.” – WVH

PiercingMetal Thoughts: I really don’t have too much to add in terms of my “thoughts” on such a clip because its both heart-warming and heart-wrenching at the very same time. I loved the use of the home movies showing the family arriving home together for the first time and seeing the joy on everyone’s face and also the interaction between father and son. The song itself is a solid number and one that leaves me curious on how the rest of the stuff to come will be. Wolfie has a nice voice as a lead and I can share that he played all of the instruments on the track as well. Nice work and I hope you play this until the very end because the final piece will most likely knock you for a loop. Best of luck to Wolfgang on his continued musical efforts, you now have one of the greatest champions for music rooting for you in the Great Beyond. Stay safe my friends and call your folks if its possible to do so. I know I am….
