Reflecting On The 2017 Deaths In Music

If you’ve been reading the PiercingMetal website for a while then you already know that I occasionally need to share the sad news about deaths in the entertainment world. Historically speaking, I’ve been doing them since the days when I had “PiercingMetal Musings” as a side blog that had not yet been integrated into the main site as you see now. Back then I always felt weird about doing such posts but as much as good news should be announced so should the bad stuff and as a known “voice” for the Metal Scene, I try to keep up on them when the news hits the wire. Now with this being said, there is no way possible for me to address every single one of them based on the size of the team and the time that we have so starting this year I will be doing a larger rundown of many of the names that I think you would know. Some have already been discussed in our “In Memoriam” Features, and those artists will be highlighted so you can examine the longer toast that we did. Let’s start from the beginning of the year and raise a glass to their memories one more time.

AC/DC’s Malcolm Young Has Died (1953-2017)

We’re saddened today to learn of the passing of the great Malcolm Young, the brother of Angus and co-founder of the legendary Australian band AC/DC. Back in 2014, the rhythm guitarist stepped down from his role in the band due to health concerns. He was in the early stages of dementia and after several months of speculation on his return or not, the management announced he had retired from the band. Sadly, the effects of Alzheimer’s would end up being the cause of his demise at 64 years of age. Malcolm’s passing leaves only Angus as the remaining original member of the band at this point in history. I’ve been a fan of the band since the “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” album, but only ever saw them in concert once and that was during a business trip when I learned they were playing in the same town I was staying. I loved their music and always am sad when one of the founding icons leaves us. Alzheimer’s is no joke in terms of what it does to you and there doesn’t seem to be any sort of cure or means to stem it off. A shame. To learn more about the musicians life you can hit his official Wikipedia entry since it’s all there. We wish his family, band mates and worldwide fans the deepest of condolences during this time. Rest in Peace Mr. Young and thanks so very much for sending us down the highway to hell and to be flies on the wall of every dirty deed being done dirt cheap. We salute you 🙂

“Iron Man 2” (Soundtrack) by AC/DC

Artist: AC/DC
Title: “Iron Man 2” (Soundtrack)
Label: Sony Music
Release Date: 4/19/2010
Genre: Heavy Metal/Hard Rock
Rating: 4.5/5

As I’ve noted in a number of postings on the websites companion blog “PiercingMetal Musings”, we are BIG fans of the comic book medium here at the Metal Command HQ and that same mentality applies to any big budget film that relates to the stuff. A few short weeks ago saw the release of “Iron Man 2” from Marvel Studios and this is the third film in what is proving to be a wonderful connected universe. It stars Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man if you are not up to speed and he is perfect for the role. It’s been super cool to see this character on the big screen and I remain hopeful about what is coming down the creative pike from the studio. Now this review is not about the film but the soundtrack that accompanies it since it’s a collection of AC/DC tunes and in some sense can be considered a sequel to their “Who Made Who” album. That was a Greatest Hits Compilation for a film called “Maximum Overdrive” and I should admit that while I own the CD I never, ever saw the film. Let’s go over what is to be found on this release.
