Witchcraft Cancels US Live Shows :(

witchcraft logo

It was just about a month ago when I shared the news that the Doom Metal masters in Witchcraft would be returning to US soil after something like a twelve year span of having done so (seen HERE). Well, sadly there have been some bad developments around this visit which you can see in the brief statement that the guys made on their Official Facebook page.

The Statement: US shows Cancelled. Dear friends. Due to serious health issues Witchcraft will not be able to perform the planned shows on NYC and Boston. We apologise deeply to our fans, the promoters and everyone involved. Ticket refund at place of purchase. Witchcraft.

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Well that sure does suck, but I hope whatever serious illness is being dealt with is over and done with quickly and the band is back to good health once more. Be sure to set something else up soon Witchcraft, you don’t want people to think that you don’t like us after so long an absence. Remember to get your refunds back my readers because at the time of this notification there are NO rescheduled dates to mark on your calendar.

Witchcraft Announces “2” US Live Shows For November

As a media outlet who is on a number of venue mailers I was excited to find the one from Le Poisson Rouge regarding a very exclusive show. There wasn’t a press release in my inbox so I’ll be editing art and any possible statements from the label or band about them. Pardon the potential redecoration 🙂

PiercingMetal Thoughts: Unless I am mistaken, the band Witchcraft has not been here since 2006 which is a very long time. Way back in the early days of PiercingMetal.com we caught one of the two regional appearances that the band was doing. They played at both The Mercury Lounge and The North Six, which is now a venue you might know as The Music Hall Of Williamsburg. At the time I was pretty new to the band but was excited to be a part of one of the shows and my original concert narrative can be found HERE for those who have interest in checking it out. I love LPR and though I will likely be exhausted from the three days of the Anime NYC convention that I will be attending just prior to our areas show, I am not going to miss out on it. Considering just how many bands have come through town since that long ago concert review, I am a bit surprised that it has taken Witchcraft that long to cast their musical spell upon their US masses. Okay that’s even corny to me as I read it back but oh well. What do you think about this news? Will you be there? LPR seems to be booking some awesome underground shows more and more so pay attention to their calendar and of course our own since I try to stay on top of their happenings.

Update From Witchcraft (11/2/2018): How long has it been? Ten years? Even more? Anyway, Witchcraft is coming back to the US and A. Tickets are selling out.

As previously noted, the Doom Metal stalwarts Witchcraft were finally on US Soil for their first-ever tour and that was discussed in a Concert Review that can be examined HERE. Now its time to enjoy the full gallery of images that were able to be captured in the setting of The North Six.

The rise of Doom Metal bands seems to be an occurrence that we are finding happen more often than not nowadays and given the amount of Power, Black, Death and Grindcore Metal that we have to enjoy this is a welcome level of musical change for the fans. Bands like Candlemass and Pentagram all have made some levels of significant mark on the genre and now it is Witchcraft’s turn. The band who hails from Sweden would be on their first-ever US tour and would find them hitting a number of intimate as well as smaller venues much to the appreciation of those who enjoy this underground Metal scene. Having only enjoyed the bands second recording “Firewood”, I was not too sure what to expect, but once the group hit the stage it was clear that they were good at their craft. It was odd to find that the band played two area shows, as this is not usually the case. Earlier in the week, they had played The Mercury Lounge, and this is a nice room, but really not much more than an oversized bar. I conferred with friends who went and enjoyed the level of intimacy the smaller size offered the audience, as literally they are right there with you. Tonight’s show would be at the North Six, a highly popular club in the Williamsburg part of Brooklyn. The area was once mainly factories and apartment buildings but over the past couple of years has found levels of change that now show dozens of restaurants, bars and music clubs. Working musicians of the City and visitors clearly love having this as an option.
