Despite being a number of shows behind based on my hectic schedule, we just loved all of the Netflix Marvel Television shows that aired on the streaming service over the last few years. Sadly, “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage”, Iron Fist” and “The Punisher” were all cancelled and now its time to move on from them. Fortunately, the fine folks at the Prop Store have gotten their hands on numerous items and will be auctioning them off in the coming weeks. Take a look down below to the full press release.

Netflix Cancels “Marvel’s Luke Cage” After Second Season

marvel's luke cage logo

The Netflix/Marvel collaboration and original series “Luke Cage” (sometimes listed as “Marvel’s Luke Cage”) has been cancelled by the streaming service about four months after becoming available for streaming AND just a week after the news about the cancellation of “Marvel’s Iron Fist” (discussed HERE) came to light. Read more down below.

The joint statement was snagged from Deadline who first reported this yesterday and while I couldn’t locate a full-on press released figure that they are a really reliable source for this kind of thing AND they had the “Iron Fist” news so here we go: “Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season,” “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

PiercingMetal Thoughts: As you can see there wasn’t a whole lot of different phrasing in this statement from the one they made about “Iron Fist” but now with “Luke Cage” done and over, perhaps they are going to lay down the justice under the banner of “Heroes For Hire” because that stuff was hinted at in Cage’s second season. Being honest, I think that I would enjoy that more since we get Fist, Cage, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing and perhaps open the door for an appearance of White Tiger or the Sons Of The Tiger (okay I remember that these two were sort of connected but I am not up on all of my comics history at this time). Though I watched both seasons of the show I didn’t always love what “Luke Cage” was all about and I think it was mainly based on the villains he had. I know they are doing different takes on them all but I am fairly certain that Luke Cage had some solid big bads to contend with. I also would have liked to hear him called “Power Man” a few times as opposed to it being a tease but that’s that, the series is done and who knows what is coming up in its place. At least we still have “Daredevil”, “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher” to enjoy. I do find it odd that the series is being cancelled the day before the third season premiere of “Daredevil” but I won’t add much more than that. What do you readers think about this cancellation news ? Do you also think that “Heroes For Hire” is coming? Perhaps since we aren’t getting a second “Defenders” series it is. Chime in down below of course.
