It was a couple of months ago when we helped broadcast the news about the soon to come reopening of Irving Plaza (seen HERE) which was great to see because live music is something that I have missed very much. Now its time for the folks over at LPR or Le Poisson Rouge to announce their grand reopening and the first slate of gigs that are lined up. Take a look.
The Press Release:
480 days. That’s how long it’s been since our stage has been dark and our doors have been closed. In the beginning of 2020, we were celebrating our longest streak of consecutive sold out shows with some of our favorite artists, and then suddenly it wasn’t clear what the future of live music would be. Thankfully, with the incredible generosity & support from music lovers like yourself, LPR is turning the corner stronger than ever before. Independent venues aren’t going away and we’re staking that claim with a stellar comeback lineup! Continue reading Le Poisson Rouge Announces Grand Reopening and Live Events→
The wake of alerts and edicts surrounding the Coronavirus Pandemic continue to flood in-boxes of outlets such as my own and since we are tasked with keeping you informed, here is the latest from the folks that handle the affairs of the NYC venue Le Poisson Rouge.
The Press Release:
Sunday evening, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio announced an executive order to close all music venues across the city. The decision on how to deal with the Coronavirus outbreak has been taken out of our hands and we intend to comply with the mayor’s order. As much as this hurts our hearts and our business, we believe this is the right thing to do and understand the need for mass closures at this time.
Though we may be temporarily shutting our doors to the public, we cannot quarantine our love for music. We refuse to give up. We are working on streaming live performances and programming, unveiling archived concert footage, and engaging the independent music community like never before. If you are a musician or have a musical story to tell – let us know! We want to enable you to get the support you need. Now more than ever, we need the healing power of music and art. We’ve just received some startling news from the folks behind the efforts of former Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy. Please read on down below.
The Press Release:
On the evening of Tuesday August 13, 2019, Peter Murphy was rushed to a local New York City hospital due to shortness of breath and was unable to perform the evening’s scheduled concert at Le Poisson Rouge. Early Wednesday morning, we were informed that Peter had suffered a heart attack. Cardiologist Jason Song, MD of Lenox Hill Hospital treated Peter and issued the following statement:
“Mr. Murphy was admitted for treatment of a myocardial infarction. He had two stents placed in his right coronary artery and was started on medications to manage his heart condition. Due to HIPAA regulations we cannot reveal further details of his condition. He is still in the hospital for continued monitoring of his condition.”
Legendary solo performer and former Bauhaus singer Peter Murphy has just announced a NYC Residency at LPR which you can learn about by reading below. I’ll return at the close with some additional editorial. Here we go.
The Press Release:
After a triumphant sold out residency in San Francisco this past March, consummate showman and legendary musician PETER MURPHY has announced a very special and intimate residency this August at New York City’s (LE) POISSON ROUGE (158 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10012). Mirroring his West Coast shows, these performances will kick off on August 2nd, running through his solo albums in their entirety beginning with 1986’s Should The World Fail to Fall Apart and ending with a greatest hits show of solo material and tributes to Bauhaus and David Bowie. The live lineup includes Mark Gemini Thwaite (Guitar), Marc Slutsky (Drums), and Emilio Zef China (Bass/Violin). The Details: Pentagram are bona fide legends of the Doom Metal genre and were underground before such a label was even a thing. Their crushing sound is something that fans need to hear up close and personal to better absorb it and that makes offering up this new contest for their appearance at LPR an absolutely awesome opportunity. The band will be joined by Brant Bjork, Royal Thunder and Black Wizard and thanks to the marketing powers that be at the venue, some PiercingMetal readers are going to see this show for free. Read on below on how to participate.
When and Where: Saturday, April 21st at Le Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street)
To Participate: Since I generally ask for three things about a particular band that you like the most and compel you to enter the competition let’s stick with that premise as it pertains to the legendary Pentagram. You can speak about an album, a live concert experience or perhaps how they changed your own Metal music perception. Just give me three good reasons and more than just “because they rock dude” since I laugh at those entries at this point. If you have deep appreciation for any of the opening acts you can surely show them some love after you compile your necessary three Pentagram points. A little brown nosing so to speak ? Before you begin please peruse some important guidelines. Continue reading Win A Ticket For Pentagram @ Le Poisson Rouge on 4/22/2017→
